Hi

This is for anyone who has done this ride - I soooooooo want to do this as I'm a huge HP fan - but I dont like roller coaters.

I get the impression from what I've read that its a bit like soarnin - Now after panicing the first time I rode it soarin is my favourite ride.

I guess I like to know what happens

On the forbidden journey do you go upside down? What actually happens?

Any advice is really appreciated.

Also is there any other good 'tame' rides you would recommend at IOA / US?
And what should I avoid (the really scary ones:lmao:)

THanks;)

I havent been yet but it you search on you tube there are some videos of it, hope that helps

Thanks - I've watched a few bits on u tube which is why I think its a bit like soarin and that I can do it;)

Although I need to no in advance if Im going to be upside down. (Im a real wimp)

:flower3:

i haven't been on FJ, so i can't tell you about that...
but i can tell you about some of the rides that wimps can enjoy (i can't do anything that spins, so any wimpy spinning rides won't be on the list as i haven't been on them to know)..

anyway, of what i'm familiar with -
IoA:
Spiderman - it's sort of like soarin combined with star tours...anyway, i could ride it with my eyes closed (with my eyes open, i get motion sickness issues, but eyes closed it was fine...not too jumpy)..

Dudley dooright - sort of a splash mountain, so it has the big drop at the end...but fun

popeye bilge barges - like kali river rapids at AKL - just a raft ride, but you get totally soaked.

jurasic park - another log flume sort of thing with the big drop at the end....but it's fun...i happen to love log flume rides, so i like this...

there may be something else, but i can't think of it off hand...
there are also attractions that aren't rides, but i can't remember what they are...someone else will certainly fill in what i'm missing

at universal:
men in black - like buzz lightyear at the MK...you ride in a car and shoot things...(the car can spin, i can't remember when , but i survived the spinning, so it must be ok)..

jaws - you ride in a boat and see a mechanical shark - sort of a form of jungle cruise....corny but i like it and definitely wimpy

twister - you stand and watch a tornado - having grown up in tornado alley in the US, this attraction just makes me laugh....it so much isn't a tornado it's just silly.....but whatever....this is definitely a wimpy attraction..

there's a new one that replaced earthquake that i'm sure is also good for wimps but i can't remember the name..

also there are a lot of shows that are good for wimps....
my favorite is the monster make up show -maybe that's not the name but you get the idea....it's very funny (on purpose - they want you to laugh)..

there are some other wimpy rides at universal but i can't remember what they are..

The closest you come to upside down is when you get put onto your back. It's not scary and way fun.

The list above is good, but is also missing flight of the hippogriff and all the suess landing rides. theres also the discovery centre in the jp section and a teacup style ride on marvel island.

:thumbsup2

OK not trying to hijack but . . can you go through the castle to the ride and then whimp out before taking the ride? Just asking as if and when we go my other half may be brave enough but I wont be. I had enough issues on the Red Fish Blue Fish ride in Sues Landings lol!

Oh and at Universal there is also Jimmy Neutron that is quite doable if you can do Star Tours etc.

Do it! Do it! Do it! :yay::yay::yay:
Soarin' was by far my fav ride, but this is now my number 1 :goodvibes.
Go for it......or you will regret it afterwards :thumbsup2

FJ is very much like Soarin, not scary, no upside down bits (I don't do upside down either!). If you love HP you will love this ride.

We asked the CM if we could just have a look around the castle as the queue for the ride was over 2 hours and so we did the castle tour..... later in the holiday we went back in the evening and waited about 10 mins to do FJ although wait time said 20 mins....

Give it a go, I'm sure you'll love it :thumbsup2

Did this ride last year and wont be doing it again due to motion sickness, after a few seconds I wanted off and it was the same for my kids.

what about height restriction? i have an 6 year that is obsessed with hp.

The height restriction is 48" and we have a five year old who is 47". We fly in three weeks time so I think we are going to have to buy some type of stretching device :lmao:

Im a roller coaster wimp I wont even do the kids ones lol but I love forbidden journey done it a few times now you don't go upside down it just puts you on you back :) The youtube videos will give you a good indication what its like.

yes, you can go through the line with your braver half and then wimp out at the end..

I get motion sickness and don't do roller coasters so I didn't do FJ and much to the disgust of my 7 & 8 year olds they were too short to go on it, but you can join the queue and see the castle before wimping out at the end...you can either wait around for whoever you are with in the child swap room or just walk out of the exit.

I did umm and arh a bit about whether I should go on it, but was glad I had made the decision not to go on it when I saw a man get off who was a white as a ghost. The CMs had to help him off the ride and help him to a seat. He looked as if he was going to throw up at any moment...I really felt for him as I have been in that situation a few times afer trying rides/coasters that I should have known better than to try (but when I was younger I thought I would "grow out of it"...I know better now! :rotfl:)

Thanks for all the responses.

I get motion sickness:sick: but can manage (love) soarin so I think I might just go for it!!

I haven't personally been on it yet but i know plenty who have! Some loved it others didn't. They said the only comparison it is to Soarin' is that it's the same sort of ride system. FJ is ALOT more faster, rougher & jerkier. FJ is on a moving track - you move from scene to scene rather than stay in one place like you do on Soarin'. So basically if you get motion sickness easily than i'd advise you not to go on it as it's very intense compared to other simulator rides.

:)

If you suffer from motion sickness then FJ is probably best left alone unless you try travel sickness pills and the wrist bands lol. I suffer if I do the likes of spiderman, Jimmy Neutron, startours and the old back to the future ride, feel awful for the rest of the day although I do tend to close my eyes a lot:rotfl2:

So on the day that we went to WWOHP I forgot my travel sickness pills & wrist bands:lmao: but still did it and really had to keep closing my eyes (it's the cgi that does, if it's a 'real' scene then I am fine eg rollercoasters and the such like but screens make me icky) and swallowing to stop me honking. Glad I did it but would make sure I had taken ts tabs next time as movements are very jerky, think of the broomstick moves in a quiditch match and you can get the picture. Hope this helps.

I get motion sickness - especially on 'flying' type scenarios ... just watching the movie Hancock at the cinema made me feel ill. I lost a precious day of a weeks holiday to WDW by riding Mission Space on soft opening back in 2003. I LOVE Soarin' and have never felt sick but I was too scared to do Forbidden Journey as my boss said he felt its main priority was to make him feel ill!! He is not a ride wimp in any way!

I've not done the Harry Potter ride, but some friends recently returned from Orlando and they did it.
They do all the big roller coasters without any problems (they loved Rip, Ride, Rockit), but both felt really ill after Forbidden Journey.

I must admit it's put me off trying it. Mission Space (rough version) made me feel sick for hours - I'm not sure I'd risk it again.
