How's the French Market?

On our last trip in May, DW and I explored a little more and ate at a lot of places we had never tried before (pizza port, hungry bear, river belle terrace...). We were going to try the French Market as well, but the line was moving ridiculously slow, so we bugged out and went somewhere else.

How is the French Market? Is it worth a long/slow line? The beef stew in a bread bowl sounded good. I noticed it was sponsered by Stoufer's. Does that mean it's all a bunch of frozen microwaved food?

Thanks for your opinions.

It's my kids' favorite place to eat. They split the Fried Chicken and love it! They like the bread bowl as well. The salads at Pizza Port, or Carnation Cafe tend to be my favorite.

It's one of our favorite places to eat in the park! I usually get the bread bowl with a salad and it is definitely made for more than one person! I've also had the fried chicken with the potatoes which were yummy.

My wife is a vegetarian and sometimes she'll order the pasta with marinara so that it's meat free.

We really liked it. It wasn't crowded when we stopped in (everyone was sitting down for Fantasmic!). I had the soup of the day (potato) in a bread bowl--very filling and delicious. Mom had the chicken which I tasted...excellent, better than Knott's, and plenty of it. It's probably the second best restaurant chicken I've ever eaten. Nephew had chicken nuggets, I believe. Didn't try those but he ate all of them so they must have been pretty good, too.

We eat there everytime we go to DL. It is counter service but they prepare your plate in front of you so you know it hasn't been sitting under a heat lamp all day. I personnally enjoy the French Dip sandwich and the desserts are also very good.

Here's a link to their menu.

They have a New Orleans style Jazz band playing at different times throughout the day for your dining pleasure and the lead singer will get the kids up to play tamborines.

It is definitely worth the wait. I would advise that you go during odd dining times around mid afternoon to avoid the huge lines.

I ate there in December and really liked it. The prices were reasonable, the portions were huge, and the food was good. They also have a great variety of choices.

Dh had the beef stew in the bread bowl and I had the clam chowder and a salad. We were both happy with our meals.

I agree. We have eaten there a few times (including last week) and really liked it. We've always been able to find a table. I like the clam chowder bread bowl, the kids like the mac n cheese kids meals on a Mickey plate. The cheesecake was excellent!

We liked this place too! I had the mushroom soup (of the day) in the breadbowl (not enough of that delicious soup and ds7 stole alot of it from me!), ds 7 had the excellent fried chicken (3 huge pieces with side and salad), ds 11 had the fettucini in a cajun cream sauce with crawfish that came with a salad, dm had jambalaya with a salad and db had the clam chowder in the bread bowl. We all enjoyed the food, atmosphere and the the music. I think the price was very reasonable.

I dined there last April, and was disappointed in the French Dip, for it was very bland in taste, so I added a bit of salt to the meat, did not really help too much,I was hungry, so I ate half of it, and the gave the rest to my friend, he agreed, but ate it anyway, for he has a big appetite, so it did not seem to matter to him! ;) oh well! waste not want not? right? the dessert was very tasty, chocolate cake! yum! :) and the dining area is very nice, it can make you feel like you are in New Orleans, and the band music is very nice, I believe the cook just did not put any salt in that menu item, at that time. I hate to think that it is always bland, I may try it again, however if it is bland, it will be going back, and I will just try something else, for I like their menu.

It is delish!!!! I always want to try something new, but never do. I just cant get enough of the beef stew in the bread bowl. My DH and my dad both enjoy the fried chicken, and the kids enjoy the nuggets. It is on my list of eats this October!!

We have eaten there many times and never had a bad meal. The portions are actually too big, but the food quality is still very high - great chicken, pasta, salads, and soups. I agree you want to beat the crowd there or you could be in a long, slow-moving line. However, we rarely have trouble even on the busiest of days if we eat lunch at 11:30 for example or dinner at 5.

It is a nice quiet opportunity to soak in the great enviornment of NOS as well.

The French Market and the Plaza Inn are my favorite two cs places at DL. I like the way they plate the food on a real plate, the portions are huge so you can share and its not your typical burger or hot dog selections. I love the French Dip and the fried chicken (that one especially for the salad). Our family of four can share two meals there, especially if we get a couple of desserts!

One of our favorites. Our kids love the clam chowder bread bowls with a salad. They also have the thick steak fries, yum.
