We are watching Deal or No Deal and I know Howie was/is a germaphobe who never let people touch him. I've noticed on the last few shows he has been getting hugged and tonight he was kissed...by FIVE women. Did he go into therapy or something? I remember a few years ago he told Regis when one of the kids or wife gets sick he actually went out to the guest house for a few days. Not the most important topic of the day, I know but I've been really curious lately.

We saw him on Regis and Kelly the other day when he was filling in for Regis and Kelly asked him about all of the hugging and stuff. He said that didn't bother him. It was just the handshake thing that bothers him.

I'm SO with him on the shaking hands thing. I don't know who decided that we have to touch someone's hand and get all their germs just because we're meeting them. Blech. Would have preferred another gesture - like the Heil the germans used, but without the nazi/killing 8 million people part.

A few weeks ago at mass, it was time to do the sign of peace, (catholic) I turned to the couple behind mne and put out my hand, and they both at the same time just put up their fingers in the peace sign, and said, "Peace be with you." It was a bit awkward for a minute, as my hand was extended, and I had not encountered that before, but after a second, I realized, they were elderly, it is winter time, and catching someone's cold or worse could be deadly for them.

I am not afraid of germs, I don't even think about it. But there are many people who do realize what kind of germs can be passed by a handshake. I would not classify Howie as OCD just because he doesn't like to shake strangers hands.

ETA: Cool-Beans, I was quoting you to back you up. Not to say you think Howie has OCD.

Actually, Howie freely admits/accepts that he has OCD. He says it all the time.

I don;t mind shaking hands but I HATE doing the peace at church.
Like hate it so much, I sometimes try to come in late so I miss it--we have a small Presbyterian church-everyone usually sits in the same seats, so every week you come in sit down and say hello, smile, and then 10 minutes later you're standing up saying Peace be with you--I just said hello to you, it feels SO awkward to me.

Don't even get me started on "The Travelers"-the people who feel the need to peace out everyone in church and leave their pew to walk around getting as many handshakes as they can.

Apparently I need more church time than I am getting if I am so snarky about the Peace.
