Hello- we have made reservations at the Howard Johnsons Maingate east and wanted to know if anyone has stayed here and how it worked with the parks. We will have a rental car but wondering if the transportation they have is good or if it's better to drive and pay parking? Any input on the hotel itself would be great too!!
I really appreciate all the help you all have provided in my first post on here regarding park hopper passes..This is a great, friendly place for helpful advice!!!! Thank You All-Karen

Hi Karen!

Aren't the Disboards great?

I've stayed at HJME on several occasions, some extended, some for the "extra night" that I sometimes tag on if I can get an earlier flight. Thanks to Priceline, I no longer do extended stays there, but I do still use it for the occasional night. My take:

It's an old motel, but it's clean and safe. I've always had a car, so I can't comment personally on the transportation, but I heard some people grumble about it in the past. However, your location is pretty darned good. You make a right out of the motel, and in five minutes you're passing the Epcot exit. This is one of the things we love about the hotel. It makes driving a snap.

As for the hotel itself, I'd make the following heavy recommendation: If you don't have the "double deluxe," call and get it. It's worth the five bucks a night. They say ten, and if you're going during a busy time, they won't budge. But in value times, they'll upgrade for five. What this gets you is a microwave, a fridge, and far more important a slightly larger room and an inside (pool) location so you're not staring at the parking lot.

I'd also suggest asking for the "back pool." They have two pools. The front pool has a bar, the hot tubs, and all the people. We found the back pool to be far less crowded. This is an advantage late at night and early in the morning, when the traffic at the front pool can interupt sleep. Also, I suggest a ground floor room, if possible.

I can't say enough good things about the motel, at least for what it is: A clean, simple motel, old but safe, and amazingly easy access to the parks. I think you'll find it decent.

Have fun!

Pat
