Anyone stayed at the Howard Johnson? How did you get too the park if you didn't walk? Are there ways to get there without walking the entire way? I know it's not far, I'm just curious :)

I think the ART is the only other viable option. But waiting for it would probably talk longer than walking.

True lol it's not a far walk I just didn't wanna make my mom walk there if she didn't want to.

You could take ART or a taxi I suppose. But the walk is not bad, I was worried since it looked like a far walk from a map! But we did it with a double stroller after a LONG day at DL and it didn't seem far even at the end of each day. But ART doesn't come that often, so it really is faster to walk.

The walk is shorter and faster if you cross Harbor at the intersection right in front of the HOJO/Mimi's Cafe and walk on the Disney side of Harbor. Then cut through the taxi pickup/drop off area to the front gates.

(You'll kind of be following the monorail track walking this way. That may help you see what I'm talking about if you want to view a satellite image/map.)

Most of us love the HoJo!!!! :) We all like to stay there. :) And we walk, we've never done ART back, the ART is always longer than just walking. If your Mom doesn't want to walk there are always taxis there to take you back to your room, just let them run the meter and it'll be less than $5.

We stayed there last year and used the ART. My wife hurt her back so that was the reason we did it. NOTE: It was the last stop on their route. We found it to be not worth the money. It was hardly on time and when we did hit it right we didn't like having to go to the "other" hotels on the same circuit. We could have walked there and back much faster. We ended up walking, even though my wife was in pain, because it just wasn't worth the wait. I agree as well that one should cross at the traffic light next to HOJO and then walk towards DL. Much faster indeed.

i understand what you are saying about not wanting to make your mother walk.

i didn't stay at hojos because of this. i know they have art but people i spoke to said it was quite a walk to get there.

we always stay at the holiday inn on south walnut..it's just gone through renovation and turned out lovely. We take A.R.T. to the park and the bus only makes one stop on the way to the park. It's $4 each day for as many trips back and forth as you want.

Good Luck on finding the transportation that best suits you and your mother.

I'm also going on a mother and daughter trip when we go on the girls only disboard trip. It's good to make memories that will last forever!:goodvibes

I want my mom to save all her energy for the park.. i don't want her getting tired from the walk to and from the hotel:thumbsup2

I want her to be ready to go the next day!

Walking from the HoJo to the security point at the gates takes us 7 min. in the morning and about 10 at night. We go slower at night because we are tired and our feet hurt.

Same here, in the morning with 2 pre-teens. Longer at night for me because they make me stop at McDonalds for food on the way back while they head straight to the room.

Is it fairly easy to push a stroller on the walk from the Hojo to DLR? (Well, as easy as pushing a double stroller can be!) I guess what I mean is, is the route mostly flat with curb cut-outs?
Thanks!

We did the walk in Dec. with the double jogging stroller and it was great. We had always stayed at hotels where we had to drive and park before and loved being able to walk back and forth! :thumbsup2

You could rent a wheelchair for your mom, if she'd agree to it. I can certainly understand wanting to help her save her energy for the parks, but if she tires that easily, it might be better for her to have some help. If she feels silly being in a wheelchair in the parks, you could just offer to give her a ride to the entrance and back. They would probably hold it for you at guest services or something. Or, if she doesn't feel silly in it, you could talk her into using a wheelchair or an ECV during the whole trip. For some people on these boards, it really saved their trip from disaster to have their parent (or themselves) use an ECV in the parks, to ease strain on painful backs or legs.

Heck, if anybody offered ME a ride back to the hotel in a wheelchair, I'd take it in a second! Especially at the end of the day. I don't know about you guys, but it's not brisk walking, like to and from the hotel, that tires me out and kills my feet. It's the endless strolling and standing that you do all day in the parks.
