Howard Johnson or Grand Legacy?

Which one would you chose and why? I've stayed at Howard Johnson a few times when my older kids were younger and liked it. My DS will be almost 5 when we go next summer in early August. He will be the perfect age for the mini water park there. But I got to thinking, he'll be getting all that plus more at our local water park and more all summer. I've never stayed at Grand Legacy, and the play area for kids at the pool isn't as nice, but I could get a three bedroom suite there for around $500 less than 2 standard rooms at HoJo. And we do need two rooms.

HoJo is my favorite. I stay there every time. If you need a discount code (15% off) let me know.

I'd go for the 3-bedroom suite at GL! It's a lot closer and that extra space would be awesome. The water park is cool, but the walk to/from DL gets old.

I haven't stayed at Hojo, but we've stayed at Grand Legacy twice. The pool isn't super fancy (certainly nothing compared to Hojo), but it's really not bad. I thought my kids would love the beach entry and splash stuff at GL, but the barely used that, preferring to swim in the deep end. That worked well for me since it was easy to keep an eye on them from the hot tub.
For reasons such as this, I try not to put too much emphasis on the pool if that's not the main reason for our stay. With GL being closer, giving you more space, and costing less, I wouldn't even consider Hojo unless you were planning on a ton (full day or more) of pool time.

We're going with the Grand Legacy. No one wanted to stay at Howard Johnson. I was hoping to book the three bedroom suite and was surprised when I was told it was already booked. How dare someone else book the room I want. 😤

Can you ask the hotel to put you on as a backup for the suite in case the other party cancels?

I didn't think of asking that. I will do so this week when I call back and give them another credit card.

I'd definitely check back regularly. There's a good chance it will open up if you aren't going for a year. Or maybe the 2 bedroom/2 bathroom suite will open up. They also have really good sales. The 2 bedroom suite was listed at $340 in July during a flash sale.

The 2 bedroom suite is a room with two queen beds and a living room with a fold out couch. Whoever sleeps on the couch doesn't get a private bathroom. The three bedroom suite is two rooms with their own bathroom, plus a living room.

Oh, I must have mixed up what the suites are called. Oops.
