how young?

If mom and baby are healthy, and mom is genuinely feeing up to it... go for it. My SIL did it with 10 week old twins and an 1y/o in tow. She utilized the baby centers, and did mostly half-days.

Yes, the germs are a concern. But I must say that the mall, dr's offices and walmart are germ ridden as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about the germs. A baby that small is not going to be touching anything and I'm sure you will all be sure to wash or use hand sanitizer before touching the baby after going on rides. And it's not like you're going to let strangers handle your baby.

My biggest concern would be the heat. I think you mentioned going during free dining...are you talking August or September. By mid-late September the temps should be better, but there is no way I would take a baby that small during the summer heat and humidity. Babies don't regulate their body temps that well so I would worry about over heating.

That being said - babies that small are quite portable and resilient in terms of noise, etc. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time if they choose to go and the pictures with the characters would be precious!

GREAT question....I was asking it all the time and ultimately decided to go for it b/c I was in a wedding and "had" to go anyway.
We returned this weekend from a 10 day trip w/ our 9 week old, 4 yo and 6yo. It was FANTASTIC.
The baby did great. We used a sun-screen that snapped on the stoller and she had no problems w/ the sun. Used the hotel crib w/ our own mattress protector/bedding and she slept better than at home (we moved her to a crib the night we got home b/c she did so well there!) We took a Zooper stroller that could recline fully or we could snap the car seat in...she preferrerd to kick about inthe stroller.
It REALLY was easy w/ an infant and I would not have thought it possible had I not just lived it ;)

I did it. My dd was six weeks old when we arrived. I had a scheduled c-section. We did everything we could squeze into a 9 day trip. My older child turned 5 that trip and she will tell you it was her best birthday ever and we have the best baby pictures ever. Your DIL is the one who should decide. If she wants advice on how to do it I will happly give it. Enjoy your grandchild. they grow way too fast.

Hmm, the problem is that you don't know the temperment of the baby yet. My oldest would've been fine, my other girls just okay, and my boys would've been nightmares at that age (one cried all day, and woke every 2 hours to be fed at night, the other had colic and screamed from midnight - 4 am nightly). At 6 weeks, my oldest was sleeping through the night, but I was still very exhausted at that age with the others.
