Taking my son's friend (age 12) and my FIL (63) down in early June (BWV 1BR). My question, I've got two hopper passes with one day left on each. We'll be at the parks for 6 days. My wife, son and I have AP's. What should I do for the others? We can't get UMP's because it says everyone has to get one. Is this true? Am I stuck getting a 6 & 4 day hopper passes? What discounts can I get with DC and DVC?

I know this is a ticket question, however, alot of you DVCer's have taken friends and family and have probably dealt with this very situation.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Why don't you give FIL and son's friend(SF) each a hopper pass with the 1 day left and let them use that up, and then get each a 5 day hopper pass.

I think if you have APs you are exempt from the requirement that "all" must buy the UMP and only those who need passes would have to purchase the UMP.

When we were there in November we had 10 people in a GV and only one person needed passes. (We did not know that you all had to buy.) He went down and bought a UMP, he even dropped the last day, no problem.

If you already have APs you will not be required to get UMPs. You can get credit for the remaining days left on the hoppers and just get the friend and FIL an UMP.

What if our guests are only staying one week and we (all have APs) are staying 2 weeks? Can they still buy UMPs?

can I trade in the unused tickets and purchase the UMP's BEFORE we leave for our trip? If so, will I get the discount?

Thanks

UMP's can only be purchased at the hotel so you would not be able to purchase them before your trip. I am not sure if you realize the UMPs are good for just about everything in Disney ( 4 parks, waterparks, PI and DQ) but they are only good for the lenght of your stay, your must buy them for all he days except they will let you drop the first or last day,SOMETIMES they will let you drop both the first and last day. These are not hoppers and expire after check-out.

The requirement that everyone in the party get the UMP's only applies to package bookings. This is not the policy with DVC, you can get however many that you need.

What you cannot do is get them for part of the trip. We had the same situation, my DD's friend was joining us for 7 out of 14 days. They could not sell us an UMP that didn't match our length of stay. While you can drop the first and/or last day, that's all that they are able to do.

DVC is unique in that they are still giving you the discount when you purchase an UMP upon arrival. Non-DVC bookings require pre-payment to get a discount.

You can trade each one in BUT you will only get the price paid per day at the time they were bought. You will essentially lose any value of price increases since then. You could get an UMP pass and get the 10% member discount. You can usually get them to drop the first and/or last day of your stay and just get the 6 days you need. The prices are about the same for the main choices (UMP, 6 day plus pass) but the best value depends on how you and they will use it. You could also get 5 day passes for less and use the other days you already have to supplement to 6 days. Either way, they are looking at close to $300 each for that time. If they might make another trip, they could consider an AP as well and just save the tickets you already have for later.
