How would you "fix" WOC viewing?

I'm really looking forward to WOC, and hope to snag a GREAT viewing/standing spot. Reading the disboards about peoples' experiences got me to thinking, how can Disney "fix" the viewing area?

First idea: Bleachers. Nope, that would block the view of Paradise Pier, and be rather ugly.

Second idea: Bleachers which when not in use, fold down flat or are lowered into the ground during the day. These bleachers would have row and seat numbers. The WOC Fastpass would have your section, row and seat number on them. NO NEED to line up hours in advance, no queue, etc.

Twenty minutes before showtime, Mickey and a drum line come out to center stage...the drum line does a quick fanfare, Mickey presses a huge red button and BAM, the WOC bleachers rise up out of the ground! An AWESOME start to a great show! :woohoo:

So, what's YOUR great idea?

Oh, I like the Mickey and the drumline! Assigned seating would be fabulous. I think a quicker and cheaper fix, though, would be to just increase the number of rises on each step. Fact is, even if there's only a 2-3 inch difference between you and the person in front of you, that can make a big different to a shortie like me.

Or maybe just have everyone line up by height and fill front to back ;)

ive offten thought they needed bleachers for F too i like the fold down idea for both f and woc

Bleachers would require demolishing the the area. Have you walked through there during the day? There are a lot of planters and some plant-archways etc. I guess if they turned it into a concrete flat, it can be used for entertaining but it would be ugly compared to what it is now. However it is an underused area since they can't do anything there when there isn't a show.

But I've never had a bad viewing spot :confused3 There are plenty of good spots as noted in the superthread. This isn't a dig on anyone in this thread or they complaints about bad viewing, but it just takes some planning.

IMO there are no good solutions. There are some that might help.

First, as the OP said, nothing can be constructed that would create a permanent blockage of the daytime view of Paradise Bay from folks approaching PP thru the GRR route or the Bugs Land route. When they come into PP they need to see the water.

Taking a cue from Fantasmic at DL, they rip out all the current viewing area and create a sloped sitting area along the water's edge. That would help a ton and create a bunch of very decent viewing spots that do not exist now.

Behind that sitting area they create a terrace with another sloped sitting area. Then towards the back would be a sloped standing area.

Bleachers will not work IMO.

:wizard:

@Hydroguy - like a mini amphetheater? I can support that. It would allow them to make it more than a blank space for bleachers and it solves the viewing issue. But the area is already sloped from the water to Ariel. If they build up to make a slope, the upper area will be higher than the main walk way. If they build down, it goes into the water. Or am I misundertanding?

The WOC viewing area is not sloped. It is terraced. In other words it has a series of flat areas at different heights. I am talking about a true sloping of the ground. The sitting area at F! is sloped so those further back from the water can see over those in front.

I like this! It was much easier get a good spot for F! than for WoC.

Anything that allows people to sit down like F! instead of standing for hours.

Either sloped or mini-amphitheater. (I think patrick may be thinking of the one in downtown Portland since he's from Oregon.) Something like that would work great.

I've seen WOC about a dozen times and never had bad viewing, nor did I ever show up more than 15 minutes before the show. I just don't understand how people cannot stand up for even an hour--why am I getting flashbacks to the humans on Wall∙E?

Are you serious? Do you happen to be sixty years old with bad knees or a bad back or happen to be a four-year-old who is tired from having walked the park all day? The folks who have trouble standing for an hour after a whole day in the parks are typically not in their teens and twenties.

Do you have a family? Have you tried to do your best to allow your 3 foot child enjoy a show that he/she waited patiently for? I have tried 3 different times to see WOC (2 with kids) and the best time was when we waited 2 hours to get a bridge spot. No matter how much "planning" you do, the current system does not work for families with young kids.

Again, do you have little kids??!

THANK YOU!

according to CM's I have talked to they are looking at the second option, belachers that rise out of the ground. however these are the type of bleachers that have actual seats with backs on them.
There are some problems with the construction of this including plumbing for the show that gets in the way and something about a water retaining wall from the lagoon.
IF they can get this to work they are looking at this being a "test run" in terms of doing Fantasmic this way AND making Fantasmic a more year round thing if it works instead of saesonal. They don't like the crowds that fantasmic and fireworks take up so it creates a huge problem but they feel if they were to have seating for fantasmic and people wouldn't be in such a rush to get a seat then people would be so crowded.
