How would you do it (NYC transportation)

DW and I are taking a couple days in July and going to NYC. We fly into LGA and our hotel is in Manhattan (a couple blocks from 30 Rock). So I'm looking at transportation to/from the airport. We're leaning toward car service (I understand bus/subway is cheap, but we'd have luggage to deal with).

I've read about dial7.com, but who would you recommend (if anyone has an idea).

Medallioned cab: cheap rates to midtown, usually cheaper than Uber and you can just walk to the taxi stand and pick one up, unlike Uber/Lyft where you have to wait, and the hack license holders I've found to be much better drivers on the whole. Oh, and they've taken credit cards for years now and have touch screens in the back.

As mentioned, there are also tons of car services, but I haven't found them to be meaningfully better than a yellow cab for that sort of short journey with only two people.

New York's public transportation is generally strong -- but not to LaGuardia. Take a cab or an Uber. I wouldn't overthink it. A car service would be a waste of money.

When I want to pre-plan, like when I travel to LGA or JFK, I use Carmel. Their cars are clean. They are reliable and their drivers are very nice. When I leave LGA or JFK, I just use yellow cabs. Uber has become more expensive than yellow cabs from the airport, so no reason to use them anymore.

LGA is the absolute worst of the 3 to get to by public transport. I wouldn't recommend it to someone from out of town who doesn't know what they're doing.

Carmel is great and has a bunch of easily available codes for first time users.

I use Carmel or Dial 7; whichever one I happen to have a coupon for at the time.

Depending on time of day, I'd just take a yellow cab from LGA

Not an issue if you have a "manageable" amount of luggage...LGA is undergoing massive construction. You'll probably have to take a shuttle bus to get to the taxi stands
