How would I get from here to there...

If we are spending the day at MGM, eating a late dinner at Spoodles at the Boardwalk, and then need to get back to the Poly, what would be the best/fastest way to do that?
Does a bus run from the Boardwalk area to the TCC and then we could walk to the Poly? If you are staying at the Poly, generally what would be the fastest way to get there from the other resorts such as AKL and WL?
Do I have to first transfer at Downtown Disney?? Or do buses run from each resort to the TCC even late into the evenings?
I'm trying to wean us off of feeling like we need a car for peace of mind, but having never used the Disney system I find it pretty confusing and am worried will get stranded or it will take hours for what would otherwise be a 10 minute drive.
Thanks!
Jill

Getting from resort tor resort is one of the most inconvienient parts of Disney transportation system. You need to use either a park or Downtown Disney as a transfer point. Be sure to check park closing hours if you plan on using the park as a transfer point.

In your example, you could walk or take the boat from MGM to Spoodles and then take a bus to the MK bus stop, and take the monorail or boat back to the Poly. If it were me I would take a taxi back from the Boardwalk to the Poly.

Here's a ling to a calculator to give you an idea of approzimate travel times: http://www.ourlaughingplace.com/asp/twiz.aspx

Jill--

If a park is still open, I would bus it to a park, and then wander back to your resort. If not, I would NOT recommend Downtown Disney. We had one of our most miserable experiences using Downtown Disney to get back to our resort . . . we waited 45 minutes in the cold (end of April) for a bus, and because the line for our resort was so long, we didn't even get on the first bus! We had to wait another half hour for another bus in tank tops and shorts! Misery!!! After that enlightening experience, we took taxis back "home" if supping at another resort. Trust me, the $15 is well worth it. :)

I agree, a Taxi is the best way to get to anywhere quick at WDW. There are taxis waiting at the entrance to each park. If you need one at a resort simply go to the bell hop and ask him to call one for you. You will get a taxi to you in minutes.
If you have more time you can walk through Epcot and take the monorail to TTC. I prefer this because then I can walk past Mexico and grab a margarita on the way out.
Or walk to either MGM or Epcot and take a bus to Poly.
Otherwise a bus to MK then either a boat, ferry or Monorail to Poly.

If you walk to the front of Epcot, your only option is the monorail. No bus service from Epcot to the monorail resorts.

Do I have this correct....
DTD is the only "transfer hub" for the buses from resort to resort (in our case Spoodles at Disney Boardwalk area to the Poly)? So using Disney transportation we either have to go through there and switch buses, which sounds terrible, or go to a Park? We can't take a bus from Spoodle area to the TTC? From the name, I thought the TTC would be a major "hub", and with the Poly being so close it would be very convenient.

If our Spoodles reservation isn't until 9pm, we have to eat and get ourselves back to Epcot to catch the monorail, it sounds like we could be cutting it close on making the monorail. Staying at MGM to eat dinner is sounding better and better!

If we have to start taking taxis we will just rent a car instead as we will already be paying for transportation to Universal and then to the airport at the end.

Thanks for you help!

DTD is the only Non Park hub. So, it's the only one available after the parks close. The only busses that go to TTC are AK and MGM. You can also get busses to the CR, Poly and GF from any park (and DTD) except MK.

It helps to have a map of The World so you can at least choose which transfer hub represents the shortest distance. Going to Downtown Disney is not only via an unusually slow route, but is also an out of the way location.

Also knowing park hours for that night helps so you don't try to make a transfer amidst crowds from a closing park.

As far as a 1-1/4 hour wait to board a bus at Downtown Disney, that looks like a real problem.
