One of the major criticisms against Blair at the moment is the Iraq war - I was against the war from the start and still am, but the Conservatives supported our involvement and Howard would have done exactly the same as Blair had he been PM at the time.

Yes I agree that Conservatives supported Labour over the Iraq conflict but their support was based upon the information publically given at the time.I suppose we will never 100% know if Labour misled the public and lied over the threat Iraq posed.

I see that Labour are trying to play games again with stating they will not increase income tax and really expecting the public to believe them. National Insurance is a tax on income after all.

I have no doubt that the Conservatives would have backed the war in Iraq had they been in government in exactly the same way that Labour did. So for me it's a total non issue.

As far as taxes go I think the only party that is telling the truth are the Lib Dems. The idea that you can improve public services and cut taxes at the same time seems somewhat strange to me. I really wouldn't mind paying a bit more tax if we had better public services :) European countries are always cited as having better public services than us but they do have a higher tax burden to go with it.

Hi,
I find the thought of paying any more tax horrifying, I read an article a couple of years ago that the average person in this country pays 75p in the £ in total. I can only assume with Labour's stealth taxes that the figure is now even higher. Cut out some of the Quangos and bureaucracy and finance the things that people really want. Oh and don't even get me started on the EU..!

Mick.

You can improve public services and reduce taxes, by getting rid of some of the money wasting services offered by Labour. The "Child Trust Fund" is just one stepping stone to this.

but I always vote because women died campaigning for women to get the right to vote.

I strongly agree with you on this Joanne and am bringing my three DD's up to realise that it is their duty to vote in respect of the memory of these women.

It is a complete waste of time voting Labour down here. Once upon a time many many years ago I used to vote Conservative but that all changed when they sold the miners down the river. Since then I have voted Liberal and I WAS glad when Labour first came to power but I feel Tony and his cronies have now passed their sell-by date. I do not want a return of the Tories, especially under the leadership of Michael Howard, so I will be voting Liberal in the vain hope that they might actually get somewhere.
