Hi everyone!

This is my first post here:banana: I've been to DL many, many times here in Calif, but this will be our first trip to WDW.

We have the free dining plan and I have read everything I can about it, so believe I understand how it works. In the sticky and in several threads, mention has been made that we *might* be able to use a TS credit for a CS meal, and trade credits for snack credits at the end of the trip. I will make several ADRs, but don't want to commit to sit down meals every day.

How will we know if WDW will allow this in the Fall? Do we just ask each CM if we can do it when we are there and it is the luck of the draw, or is there a general announcement?

BTW, this board is FANTASTIC!! You all are so helpful and special kudos to the DISDesigners ( I think that is what they are called) - how generous and wonderful they are to go the extra mile!

Chances are you will read about it here before you leave if they decide to do that. Last year they gave a voucher for 2 snacks and a mesh bag. We saved all our vouchers for the last day and they ran out of the mesh bags before our last day. So if they offer it, trade them in ASAP.

They will also have notices up at the CS locations, at the resorts, etc. I think last year they also had a flyer in the welcome pack.

Thank you all so much! That will make the trip even better for us meal-wise if they do that again.

When I made my package reservation, the CM told me that we could do it and said "you always can." :confused3

Does anyone have experience with TS for CS being turned down? Maybe we have all just "assumed" that you can't, or the CM was totally lying ;)

Not sure whether "you always can", but we went during December FD Visa promo and were allowed to trade a TS for CS one night because my DD was sick and we couldn't make our TS, but they didn't give us any extra snacks or a voucher and they gave us no value for the child (age 7) TS.

Well, the CM may have been right, but not quite the way you're talking about with getting extras when you trade down to counter service. During regular dining times, people have reported having their credits adjusted at the concierge desk of their hotel, but getting only a straight-up trade of one table service for one counter service (no extra snacks or merchandise) And it had to be done in your hotel, not at counter service restaurants (apparently the cash registers at counter service places cannot make the adjustment to convert a table service like that.)

The only time they've given the extras when trading the table service is during Free Dining, and that was because there simply was not enough capacity to handle all the Free Diners in the Disney table restaurants at peak times.

During the Free Dining period, would this be done at the hotel also? And would I just go each day we wanted trade, or the first day tell them I only want so many TS?

And what about converting CS to snacks? I've read that several places also....

I'm just happy to hear we can trade - a straight trade is fine with me!

Bumping this as I would like to know about the possibility of trading CS for snack credits. Thanks.

There have been a few reports that some CS places that also sell snacks have permitted guests to cash in a CS credit and buy two or three snacks, but it's not official, and not consistent. You may find a CM that will let you do this or you may not. You would not be able to have a CS credit converted to 2 or 3 snack credits.

During the free dining last year we were on the DxDDP, so CS and TS were not differentiated. We ate at the PORS food court a couple of days and the cashier automatically handed us two vouchers for each meal. Last year you could trade a TS for a CS, plus 2 snack vouchers or a little mesh bag. You did not get both the snack vouchers and the bag. We were sick of TS meals, so did use it several times at CS places and got the 2 snack vouchers each time. We had to ask at each restaurant.

A couple of years ago during free dining WDW let you trade a TS for a CS, plus a lanyard and two pins. Who knows what they're going to offer this year.

During times free dining is not offered there have been reports of people being able to make a one for one switch (no extras) at resort food courts, but a food court manager or guest services had to get involved. There have never been any reports of anyone being able to do this in the parks though, just at resorts.
