How/who to ask about linking family's reservations?

We made it thru Hurrican Sandy ok and are going to Disney next week and we will have 5 rooms of family members that I want to "link" together. Not sure link is the right word. Just don't want anyone to get bumped to a different resort and if possible would like rooms near each other. Some ressies were made thru WDW and some through DVC. Who do I talk to and what is the right word to use to describe what I'm trying to do? I'm going to post on the DVC board as well.

I don't think you can do that with Disney and DVC reservations, but not sure. You are talking about having them mark the reservations as "traveling with" and requesting your rooms be near each other.

By the way, being moved to a different resort is exceptionally unlikely.

You want to have the reservations cross referenced. Linked is a Disboards term, although the reservations CM will probably know what you mean if you say linked. You should just call whomever you made your reservation with and explain what you're trying to do. Chances are that Reservations can't see DVC and vice versa.

Each person will have to call and make that request. We did that at POR, but I'm sure it's probably the same now, at other resorts. The CM wouldn't allow just one of the families to request the cross-referencing..in case it was something the other family didn't want to have happen. So, we both had to call, with our respective reservation info, and then have it cross-ref'ed.

It is called a Grand Gathering on our reservation confirmation email. My daughter made her reservation first. Then when I made ours, I gave the CM her reservation number. They also needed her name and address. The grand gathering has its own identification number. My daughter then had to call Disney with the grand gathering number in order to link the reservations.

One of the benefits of this was when I called to get the room discount offer for our room, I asked the CM if she could add it to my daughter's reservation, and she did. :)

Now I'm hoping that it will help us get rooms that are close to each other.

I don't think you can have a Grand Gathering if some reservations were made through Walt Disney Travel Company and some through Disney Vacation Club.

I thought they discontinued Grand Gatherings this year anyway - all of the GG events were discontinued, so I assumed the entire program was ended. That's why I just called it "traveling with" on my previous post.

Grand Gatherings still exist, just the events were discontinued.
