How Wet Is Wet?

I am going to US/IOA in a few weeks. I have read that some of the water rides get you soaked. Are there any that aren't that bad? Or should I just skip them all if the weather is a little chilly? Secondly, would a poncho help keep me dry?

I think mostly it depends on where you are sitting, and shear luck. I would say that you get least wet on Jurassic Park, then Dudley, then Popeye, which you get most wet on.. but I am undecided on the order of Dudley and Popeye, it really is luck.

A poncho might help, maybe someone who has tried it can answer better, but on Popeye you basically get wet from below you, and beside you, so I don't think it will help a lot.

But regardless, I would suggest you go on them, because all three of them are outstanding with story and theme.

I just came back from a trip, and rode EVERY ride. I think the worst for getting you wet is the Bilge Rat Barges. I wore the poncho, but still got my legs, shoes and shorts wet (the worst was the wet socks = blistered feet after walking around the rest of the day!). Make sure you keep your seatbelt loose, so you can scoot up in the seat when it fills up with water.

I did not get as wet on the Dudley Do-Right ride. The back seats seem to be dryer than the front of the boat. The 2 people in front of me were much wetter. Again, the poncho helps.

The other rides you have a potential to get wet on are Jaws. The worst spot on that ride seems to be the front right of the boat (where I was sitting). Also Jurassic Park, a couple things spray at you, and the drop, which didn't seem to get me too wet with the poncho.

Quite a number of the shows and other rides spray you or give you the potential of getting wet. Sinbad can, but those seats are marked with a "splash zone" sticker on the seats. The Horror makeup show can get you wet too in the first row or two. Some of the 4D shows will spray you a bit, but nothing to get you soaked.

I've got to agree with bobbyshawatl that Bilge Rat Barges was the worst or best depending how you look at it. Everytime I've been on it I've gotten completely soaked. I suppose a poncho might help the situation but I think depending on your luck you may still end up wet.

The first year we went down we were unaware and were expecting something like splash mountain (this is much wetter). The second year and from now on we plan to go there later in the day when we are planning on leaving shortly.

Keep in mind they have lockers in the area that you could bring a change of shoes at a minimum. I don't recall if these lockers could be used for long storage (as I recall they could not) but there are lockers in the park you could keep extra clothes in and work it in that way.

Of course if you are staying onsite...problem solved.

Rather than bringing another pair of shoes, you can just take your shoes and socks off when you get on the ride and put them in the center bin.

i always take a roll of quarters and stand on the bridge to watch the homies on the dudley ride.

i only aim for the dry ones.

same thing for the bilge rat barges.


seriously, i have not found jurassic park ride bad for getting wet.
but then, i move to the side as we go down on the drop and the peeps behind me get the shower, if any at all.

if you wear a poncho, be sure to tuck it under your bottom side so the water does not travel up to where the seats are.

All DH and DS have talked about since booking this trip is the amount of quarters they have to save to soak the people who foolishly think they have survived the soaking... luckily we stayed on site because we were SOAKED and it was chilly in October, we just headed back for a change and a hot tub and headed back out. Better a soaking wet day in Orlando than a really great day at work

The bilge rat barges have the potential of getting you just as wet as if you had jumped into a pool fully clothed. If I were you I would hang out at the exits of the Dudley Do-Right and Popeye rides for a while so you can see firsthand what the people look like at the end of the ride. The difference between Dudley and Popeye is that in the former you have a chance of staying dry, especially if you sit in the back, while in the latter you are lucky if you don't get soaked plus there is no seat that can save you. The Jurassic River ride has a very good chance of coming out dry as a bone.

Here's how wet wet is--rode Bilge Rat Barges on a Sunday morning. My sneakers finally dried out on Thursday.

Fortunately, the day I went was EXTREMELY slow in the park. Noone was manning the water cannons when I rode!

True Story! A poncho won't really help. If you're wearing sneakers/socks, and not sandals, your feet will be uncomfortable the entire day.
The other rides-- not so much. I have come of JPRA with a single drop of water on me, and Dudley with only minor splashes to the hair. Those, a poncho can definitely save you!

We were at Universal last Thursday and Sunday. Thursday, the remmants of IDA kept Orlando at the mid-fifties and windy. Amazing, no wait for Popeye at all, nor Dudley. We didn't go. Sunday, not a cloud in the sky and 81, still no wait for either. We did both, several times.

Dudley will get you wet, but mostly your top and front and the front seats are wetter. Ponchoes will moderately help.

Popeye is a fully wet ride. Water comes from all directions, above, the side and the rear. Ponchos are no help here. It is also one of my favorites rides at the parks. Much better than Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom, much, much, better!

Mind you, I like getting wet, so my view is that ponchoes are for wimps. I'm the guy who gets off the ride 90% wet and then jumps around the fountains in and around the cartoon area to complete my soaking. However, knowing that wet shoes and socks can lead to blisters, I always have a change handy.

I get more consistently wet on Popeye as I don't think I've ever ridden it where I've gotten off close to dry.Dudley I know has gotten me incredibly wet sometimes and other times not as much,I'm almost certain there are some sprays and waterfalls on the ride that can be shut off by Universal for a less wet experience.Jurassic Park has never soaked me,it can get you wet but is definitely the driest.
