How wet do you get on Dudley?

In the past, I've only been to IOA in the Spring, but now I am going to be there in June - when it's pretty hot!

Because of it not being that hot in the past for me, Dudley has never appealed to me much (that final drop just looks too intimidating). I have a few questions regarding this ride:

How many drops are there in total?

Are there any neat special effects?

Can you sit anywhere to avoid the water?

Is it as wet as Pluto's? (the irony here is that I rode Pluto's and not Dudley's the first time I went!)

It's a lovely ride with lots of things to look at on the way round.

Unsure wether you can sit anywhere that is better for staying dry.

Other than the last drop, which is excellent, there arent any more drops other than tiny ones.

And to answer your original question, you get VERY wet!

Pluto= pluto:
Bluto is Popeye's nemisis.
You get wet on both. I think you stay drier in the rear of the log on RipSaw Falls.
I've seen people make it through Popeye and Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges unscathed but that is atypical.

Much like any flume style ride, you can escape getting soaked on Dudley's, but it's more luck than judgement. Obviously you avoid much of the spray by not sitting in the front, but if your boat is heavy, you'll create a bigger splash and the ones in the back will get wetter.

Popeye is still the wetter ride for me - ridden it five times and never failed to get absolutely drenched each time. With Dudley's however, I've had a different result all four rides - just slightly damp, farily wet but not soaked, completely drenched and bone dry.

Thanks for the replies everybody! I am really looking forward to my trip!

No one has yet commented on any special effects or show scenes in the attraction? Can someone do that? I am not farmiliar with the Dudley stories much, so I hope the story is easy to follow :)

When we go to Universal/IOA we wear tank tops and men's bathing suit bottoms, 'cause you get WET (girls and boys) We could not believe how many opportunities there are to cool off in the parks, rides and just cooling stops.
So you can get dried off quick, but keep getting wet when you need to cool off. Sandals help as well so you don't feel squishy and soggy all day...
I might get flamed though for being a bad dresser when I go to the parks, but I am there to give everyone something to talk about ;)

How wet you get on Dudley depends on what parts of the ride are working. Near the end of the ride, there are these things that look like hoses that squirt at you. It's impossible not to get wet! If these hoses are on, then you will get a heck of a lot wetter than Popeye's, but if the hoses aren't on, you might still get just as wet. Avoid sitting in the front if you don't want to get wet, but i find sitting in the front and getting wet is refreshing!

about show scenes, its not really a theatrical ride like splash mt. in WDW. There are some cool effects though. for example, there's one section where it appears a train is headed straight for you, but right before collision, you go down a moderate sized drop!

this is the one ride i have not been on due to getting soaked on it.

i always stand on the bridge and use the sprayers to make sure the ones that came out not very wet, to be very wet.......... :rolleyes1

How wet you get depends on the people putting the quarters in the water gun machines on the bridge. If crowds are low you will probably stay relatively dry but if you have a few people with some extra change the chances are you are going to have to wring your clothes out...........oh well you're in Florida! Have fun! The water dries!

Exactly, I usually have lots of quarters and lots of time.;)

the last drop is the best at the front, you get soaked anywhere yousit in the boat but it's a great ride

The only times we have been to Universal have been on New Years Day (twice on hs band trips), so it has been COLD, and we have avoided Dudley and Bluto. But now we are going the end of June, so we'll appreciate being cooled off by getting soaked! My question is whether this is a place to put "stuff" (backpacks, etc.) on the ride to keep them dry. We are staying at HRH, so we might just time riding them before a hotel break so we don't have to walk around in wet clothes, but I'd like to know whether we should put the cameras, etc., in lockers or not. TIA~

Everytime we've gone on Dudley we've all gotten absolutely DRENCHED... we literaly came off soaking wet!

It is absolutely my favorite water ride!!!! My family thinks I am such a dork for my enthusiasm....You do get totally soaked, but feels good depending on what time of year you go and if you are prepared for it.

I never had to pay quarters before for the water cannons, at least I do not remember that--is that sort of new? Or maybe I am thinking of Popeye and Bluto where I had a good time spraying unsuspecting riders.

Do both rides have cannons that people can shoot at you? Do they both charge now, 'cause I'll need some quarters.

I would definitely put cameras, cell phones, etc. in a locker. They're located a little to the left of the entrance to Ripsaw Falls. What I usually do is take a smaller sized plastic shopping bag with me and when I get into the boat I stick my sandals into the bag. I just hate walking around in wet shoes! The attendants will not let you get into the log/boat unless you have shoes on so you have to wait until you're in the boat.

Popeye has a section in the middle of the raft that has a plastic covering that snaps down where you can put some items you'd like to TRY to keep dry. It's not foolproof however, which is why I'd definitely get a locker for the electronic items.

Have fun getting soaked! It feels great on a hot, Florida day.

I bring extra quarters and hand them out to the little kids (my guess is big bro or sis is riding while they wait) I also drop a few in myself, if I am waiting with the little one (who is still to short to ride, but finally big enough to enjoy squirting those who pass WOOT!!)

Thanks for that info! So, I think I will put everything in a locker and not have to worry about anything!

I don't think the lockers by Ripsaw Falls are free lockers like the ones near Hulk and Dueling Dragons.

We were able to ride Ripsaw Falls with a backpack. We stuffed it down by our feet and it didn't get wet.

The soaker cannons at the end of the ride are what get you -- the splash after the drop isn't so bad.

Enjoy your visit!
