How well do walkie talkies work at DL?

I'm considering bring some walkie talkies on my trip. We'll have my parents along with me, and they aren't the greatest about hearing their cell phones ring.

I've seen some earlier posts that suggest cell phones are the way to go; if it were just dh & me, I'd just go the cell phone route. But with 2 seniors on the trip, I was thinking that maybe walkie talkies might be helpful?

Any opinions?

I agree cell phones are hard to hear. Can you set theirs to vibrate and have them keep them in a pocket? Or turn up the ring volume all the way? Maybe most people use cell phones now so that walkie talkies air waves aren't so crowded anymore. I don't know, I haven't used them there in several years.

Oh, one more thing. Even when we had cell phones with our teen boys and we split up, we still had a meeting spot we would go to at a certain time. That way if there was a cell phone problem we would still meet up. You might want to do that too which ever way you decide.

About 5-6 years ago we used 2-way radios at DLR and they worked fine. I think there can be problems with getting other people's channels but we never had that problem.

Also, about cell phones, we had ours on vibrate when we went last April and even that was hard to notice sometimes depending on what we were doing. If we were on a bumpy ride then we didn't notice the phone ringing.

I agree with PinkBudgie that it's a good idea to have a meeting place, just in case.

Unfortunately, my parents are the greatest about feeling the vibration either! Sometimes it can be kinda frustrating when we're trying to reach them! This is mostly with my dad who is hard of hearing and in general less attuned to things. My mom is a better.

We'll definitely have a meeting spot. It's unlikely that they'd go too far anyways. They'd probably just rest in some shady spot. I figure having more than one way to contact them would be a good thing. Now if they just don't lose the walkie talkie, lol!

Anyone with more recent exprience like to chime in?

We have a love/hate relationship with walkie talkies at Disney parks. They work for the most part. Cell phones are more reliable. Usually. Walkie talkies allow a three way conversation when you have a larger group.
