Those who got the World of Color Picnic boxes - how would you rate your overall experience and the "view" you had of the show ?

I am not too concerened about how the good the food in the picnic boxes is since there are enough reviews about that already :-)

I got the picnic boxes primarily because I wanted a better view and it was more convinient than having to wait in line for a FP & for the show ( Specially with a toddler ). I had not seen the seating charts then. Now I am started to get concerned that it's not really going to neccesarily get me a "good" unobstructed view of the show :(

What has been your experience ?

It was great. The picnic meals came with a Blue FP for the 9:15 show.

We watched WoC from the bridge and it was a great view. Since we have 2 boys we decided to stand there so nobody would block their view.

When we go back, we will definitely make the same choice of location.:thumbsup2

We sat in the handicapped area in the Blue section with our picinic lunches (due to my 78 yo mom who couldn't stand that long) and it was a great view. The nice thing about being in the lower viewing area is that there are actually fountains in the viewing area that spray up during some of the show...it was a real treat and extra bonus.

But, we also got regular fastpasses for the 10:15 show and got Blue again and we stood on the bridge.

The bridge has a fantastic view. You can see everything! I would highly recommend getting on the bridge. The bridge is a great viewing for small kids because it is only 2 or 3 people deep and everyone let the kids go up front.

Hope you love the show as much as we did.

Thank you marmemc and seattletink. Thanks for the tip !! Will head for the bridge.
The Woc show is at 8:15 pm during the week that we are visiting. How much sooner do you have to show up before the show to be able to get a spot on the bridge ?

Hi!

We bought the picnics for the convenience not the food!! And our 'stands'--is that what one calls it when there aren't seats???--were perfect!! We were in the third tier back (we did NOT want to get wet!!) and we were two people away from the premium dining VIP area.

Perfect in every way!!

Enjoy your trip and the WoC!!

Thanks Cathy. How soon did you get there before the actual show ?

I will suggest around 6:45 p.m., but it really depends on the crowd that day.

For the 8:15 show we started to queue up as soon as we saw people starting to mill around the roped off area---about 6:45.

But this was really early in the summer-the first week they offered the picnics, so they might have things more organized by now:confused3.

We had yellow FP's and stood on the 2nd tier, right behind the box where the preshow dancer stood. Great view! And get there at least half an hour before the FP time. The CM's set up early; I asked one where my section was and where the line-up was so I was oriented.

And be prepared to shuffle fairly quickly once they drop the ropes.

Thanks everyone ! How bad are the crowds now on weekdays with schools being in session and it being non-peak season ?

Thanks for the tips !! Very helpful.

About the bridge in the "Blue" area - Do you turn left immediately on entry to get to the Bridge ? Is it the 3rd tier ? Is this the area right next to the VIP Area ?
Are the entrances for all the different colored FPs are sepearated or is it just one common entrance ?

When I was there at the end of August, Blue was in one area, and red/yellow the other.

World of Color crowds on weekdays are not bad whatsoever anymore. Yellow is the best viewing, IMO.

Can you get the picnic for the second showing or is it only offered for the first?

If you preorder(online only) you get a FP for the first show. If you walk up order the day of the show, it's for the second show, but there is now only a second show on weekends(it's off season).

This is really exciting news for me. We were going to skip WOC because we have a 6 & 4 year old and I was worried about them not getting a good view or needing to spend 2.5 hours waiting to get a front spot. The bridge sounds like it will be a great option for us. I am still a little confused about where you line up to get on the bridge and how you get on it.

Me too, because I haven't been to DCA since WOC started.

Yes, we will be there on a weekend so we have the option of the second show. Shoot I really only want to go to the second show, but I don't want to take the chance that they will run out if I wait till the day of... ?
