How to transport the children?

Hello Everyone!

Here's a question for you veteran Disney-goers:

We are wondering what might be the best option for transporting our children (ages 3.5 and 6 months at the time of our trip) when we are at the parks. We are debating between bringing a double stroller or bringing only a single stroller and using a baby carrier. We will bring our own strollers due to the extra expense of renting at the park. What have others done?

Thanks in advance!

Amy :) :)

We're fond of UPS, but FedEx guarantees that they will get there tomorrow!

:goodvibes

Although UPS is nice (funny Robo! :rotfl: ), we like to use the double stroller. It definitely takes alot of room in your vehicle (are you driving, renting a car? using Disney transportation?). Of course we are out of the stroller stage now (they grow up too fast :guilty: ), but I would not like to use a baby carrier. I think the double is the best option - at least when we did it! I also like the strollers that is a single stroller that has a step that the older child can sit or stand on. Easy on and off....

Have fun planning!

We have used one stroller and a carrier, and we have used two strollers. The baby carrier worked well as long as you get a break from the carrier while the 3 yo goes on a ride you can put the baby in the stroller. The baby carrier is miserable in the heat, depending on the time of year you are going to be there. November thru April is OK but other than that forget it. Double strollers are bulky and difficult to manuver when park is crowded which is why we went to two strollers. HTH !!!! :sunny:

My browser is going NUTS today, sorry.

I'll re-start my computer and try again.

(Hey, with only 5300 posts, I'm still learning.)

Last May we had a family trip, and our DD and DSIL took their double stroller, they had a side by side stroller and were glad they took it. They had a shoulder backpack for the baby, but, only used it several times. DS and DSIL took turns using it because it was uncomfortable carrying the little one all day up on their shoulders. They used the double stroller most of the 10 day trip.

We used a double the last two times we went (a side by side umbrella). One thing we decided early in the first trip is that we will rent a car until the kids are out of the stroller...carrying a double on the buses was very tough. This time, the kids will be older and we may take one stroller and have the kids take turns. My kids are BIG and I couldn't imagine carrying them on my back (or front for that matter, they outgrew the Baby Bjorn by about 3 mos.)

we started going w/ our kids at 6 mo. & 2 y. 10 mo. - they're now ages 2 & 4 1/2 - we have always used 2 singles & a baby carrier w/ the baby in long lines, on some rides, etc. we like 2 singles b/c as our kids got older they fought in their double at home & still do - both the side by side & the front/back. i also find it easier to push a single then a double, easier to collapse on the busses & easier to navigate in crowds & in stores, etc.

What about two umbrella strollers with the clip in the middle to lock them together. Cheap and if they are misplaced and/or damaged at all your not a whole lot. Also this was if the baby was in the carrier you could use just one stroller and if not you could bring both clipped together or each push one. It's very flexible and would be easy to load into the trams, etc. We did this before when we took two little ones to the park.

When mine were little, we used a tandem double stroller (where one child sits behind the other). I think it was the Duo Glide by Graco. Much easier to collapse and bring on a bus. We also tended to rent a car more often and used it for all the parks other than MK. We walked back to the car so we could transfer the sleeping children directly to the car from the stroller.

Enjoy them! They do grow up quickly!!!

same here used the tandem dual easier to manuver thru tighter squeezes. put backpack in back had baby incarrier for line waiting but could lay her down for a nap if needed and give me a break during the parades. We have mostly gone in December so it wasn't too hot to carry. I had her baby bjourn master ina and out very easy not to mention not even waking her up.

You know your children and how they are when you go to the store or travel so use your judgement.

I would bring it. Its better to have it and not use it then to need it and not have it. If getting it down to Disney is your concern you might want to check out A babys best friend. http://www.abbf.com/ They rent anything you can possibly need and deliver and pick up at your resort. We have used them twice and will use them again in Feb.

Last time we went our daughter was 1.5 and our son was 3.5. We used the tandem stroller. It was wonderful. We will be bringing it next time because our daughter will be 3.5 and our son will be like 9 months. We bring our own because renting gets to be expensive.

Ah, I can remember a time when we took TWO double strollers - those were the days. This year we are contemplating going stroller free for the first time - where will put all of our stuff? :rotfl:
Anyway, back to the OP we found it more convenient to use two single strollers as they were more maneuverable (is that a word?) and easier to fit in our packing when we drove and get on/off the plane at DL last year. We use the cheap $20 ones from wal-mart they have baskets under and drink snack basket on top.
However, if you were going to take your own I would definitely go with the double stroller over the single and baby carrier. As others posted above, it is too hot, too long, and hard enough just to put in the miles yourself (even if you think you're in great shape) without constantly having a baby on your back, plus the ease of just plucking them up and down in the stroller.

My DD's are 3&6 and when we went in July I debated between bringing one of the 2 twin strollers that I had (sidebyside and tandem) and my full size stroller and the lightweight stroller. I finally decided on bringing the two strollers b/c dd3 is disabled and we were with my IL's and figured we would take a day or two with my dd6. I decided not to bring the tandem b/c it is kind of hard to push w/ my 6yr old in it. In the end I wish I would have brought it b/c half the time she walked and so we had to worry about two strollers and her. As much as I loved my side by side I actually got rid of it only b/c dd3 doesn't sit right in it and it was a black jeep stroller so i thought the nylon would be to hot for disney. Best of Luck!!!!!!!

:moped: MVMCP here we come 12/7/06!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My 1st Xmas in Disney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cloud9:
