Hi all I have a question. My son is custodial DCP at Epcot Futureworld. He has an opportunity to work in entertainment - video editing. He would have to transfer- however, something came up about unions and how there are different ones for different positions. He is not in one as a Custodial but I am assuming he has to be put in one- does this get taken care of when he transfers? Also wondering how the transfer takes place should he go to HR? And what area?

thanks

I need more information on how this opportunity came to him. Is this new role part of a Professional Internship, or a job opening on the Disney Careers website that he applied for? If so, he will receive the paperwork and information he needs before his PI starts. At some point, he will likely have to visit Casting again, which is the same building he went to when he first arrived for his DCP.

Thanks! The opportunity came to him in neither of the above situations. He privately sent out a resume and got a “private” Interview. The person who interviewed him had mentioned the different unions and was unsure how it would play out.

It sounds like this is an instance where he will eventually have to head to Casting and talk things out with someone. If the person who gave him a private interview couldn't tell him which union he'd have to speak to, Casting will point him to the right person to talk to about union membership.

Thank you so much - you really helped.

Florida is a right to work state. No one can be forced to join a union that doesn’t willingly join. If a situation arises where the cast member would need representation by a union representative they still are afforded that even though they don’t technically belong to the union. The only full time hourly roles at WDW that are not represented by a union are Office, Data and Technical positions. Your son isn’t in a union because no CP cast members are represented.
