When we eat at table service on our Disney World trip next week, is it better to pay with your card at the restaurant, or is it better to use your bands to pay? We are not on a dining plan. If we use the bands, can we still put a tip on? Do we just link the bands to a credit card on file when we check in at our resort? Thanks.

Yes link your credit card to your MDE account at check in. Then you can use your Magic Bands to charge anything and everything back to your room account - meals, tips, snacks, souvenirs etc.

Two years ago we took our cards with us and had to use them a couple of times because we had problems with our bands but last December we exclusively used our bands, even at V&A where we charged up a large bill.

It's nice to use the bands. So easy! Works just like a credit card - they'll scan it right at the table, give you the receipt with a line to add a tip, you tip and sign....

The band works just like a credit card. You can just add the tip to the check. Also, you can do online check-in to your Disney resort and add your credit card then. That way you might possibly skip the front desk when you arrive, get a text with your room number, and go straight to your room.

WE like to use our bands. Actually, because we travel as am extended family, we find that this is the easiest way to keep track of gratuities. One of us (my son usually) put the gratuity in his band, and every few days we just ante up. It works out well because he always pays in cash for any shopping he does so any charges to his band are purely tips.

We usually put most things on the band, except restaurants. We link the Disney Premier card to get 2% on Disney things, and use a 3% cash back card for dining. It is only 1% difference, but I can keep track of receipts easier to make sure gratuity is properly keyed and to dispute if I needed to.

We use our bands to pay for the meal and leave cash for the wait staff.
I prefer to let the staff have their tip right away instead of making them wait until the establishment decides to divvy up the credited tips.

The servers have handheld readers to read your band at the table. Its super easy. You can even charge things to the room via the band on check out day! They will just get charged to your credit card.

I ended up paying with my CC for every meal, but I found it odd the wait staff didn't even offer to scan our bands as an option. But of course, I didn't ask either. It was easy enough to pay with CC, but sometimes our waiter was gone with my card way longer than I would have liked them to have been. That kind of makes me nervous, but everything worked out ok.

I agree, sometimes it makes me a bit nervous too. That's why I try to use a credit card instead of a bank card. That way, if something nefarious happens, they only have access to a credit card and not a bank account. Then, I just pay off the credit card when we get home. Glad to hear everything worked out!

I never pay for a meal with a CC or debit card and I refuse to do so.
People in no way associated with the restaurant, (the banks), profit from those transactions and since we bailed their sorry butts out several years ago I refuse to continue funneling them cash.
And those annoying devices that we find on tables at many chain restaurants that "allow" you to order your meal, play games, and pay for your meal are nothing more than an attempt to be rid of the wait staff.
Our waitress last week was telling us about the features of the device when I interrupted her and said that we prefer to deal with nice people like her instead of an electronic device.

The magic band is the only way we pay. I have tipped cab and bus drivers cash but that's it.

Since I use the Chase Visa, I usually use the actual card. I never can remember which restaurants give a 10% discount. The waitstaff have to actually use the card rather than scan the band for the discount. Ended up savings quite a bit of money on our last trip.

As others have said, we prefer to use our bands. It results in one charge to our credit card instead of multiple charges. If you're using a rewards card like the Capital One Rewards and want to use points to pay the charges you may, however, want to pay with your card. Reasoning is you must have enough points to cover the entire charge or you can't use your points. Easier to cover multiple small charges with points than one large one if you are going to be close with the number of points you have.

The Magic Band is so much simpler for you and the waitstaff and the technology of the readers was better back in Mar than back in Dec. Several waitstaff told us they liked them a lot better. it will save you a little time to Magic Band all charges too.
