Hi guys.

I am currently living with a person whom I have to share a washroom with. We have separate rooms, but the washroom is between both rooms. Now I am in now way perfect about cleanliness, but she does not mind if the entire washroom is a big dust, dirt ball. I don't want to sound like I am picking on her, but I have just never lived with someone who doesn't care if they make a mess (i.e. leave tubes of shampoo and conditioner on the floor and not even bother to pick them up). I want to ask her if she could please try to keep the washroom a bit neater (i.e., if she makes a mess please clean it up) and I will do the same. I have been cleaning up her mess and I just cannot do it anymore. I would ask her to her face, but I do not want to offend her or let my anger get the best of me.

I keep telling myself its only 2 more months with her, but I seriously cannot handle it anymore. Would it be appropriate to leave a note kindly asking her to please be a little more tidy? If I am paying $5,500.00 for my room and the washroom I feel like it wouldn't be asking too much. Every time I walk into the washroom I feel (and get) physically sick.

Thank you for your help!

How about proposing a bathroom cleaning schedule? Say something like, "I was thinking that we could come up with a schedule to clean the bathroom. How about if I do it this week, you do it next week, and then we alternate weeks. And of course, we would both clean up our own little messes and throw away our own trash between cleanings." That way, you're not focusing on the fact that she's messy, you're just telling her that a clean bathroom is important to you and that you're willing to do your share.
