I was wondering how to take my laptop, in a rucksack rather than my laptop case? (I am going to be doing some uni work when DD is relaxing in the room)

I want to take my laptop however also needs stuff for DD for the flight.

We will be 1 adult and 1 child and I understand that the hand luggage is one bag per person, so could I carry through 2 bags for the both of us, i.e laptop bag and bag for flight or will they class it as two items for me as DD is a child?
(Hope that makes sense)

Also do you put chargers, cables etc in the hand luggage or in the hold?

We have 2 of this style http://www.targus.com/us/productlist.aspx?productCategoryId=4
Laptop backpacks, will be getting another for August as I think we are taking 3 laptops.
They have a section for the laptop then room for chargers, phone, magazines, plenty of room in them for us. Just make sure its within cabin measurements.

You should both get hand luggage allowance, look at the airlines website for allowances.

We take most electrical items in hand luggage but I get stopped almost every trip due to excessive electrical items so we try put some replaceable items in hold luggage now, like 4 way adapters, extra cables etc.

we have a laptop back pack as well which fits loads in, always pack charger in laptop bag

We flew with Delta via Atlanta last year & were amazed at the hand luggage some had. Some had asmall case on wheels with a flight bag on top & some massive sport type bags. These were per person, don't know if there were just for the internal flights but certainly bigger than the sizes we had adhered to. I know some companies allow you to take 1 item of hand luggage plus a laptop, so you would need to check with the indivdual airlines.

We have one the same as on the link Wayne posted - only we got ours from Tescos for around £10. It is one of the best type of laptop bags I have had - and since I travel a lot for work and pleasure I have gone through a lot of them.
DW also uses one that is on wheels and has a telescopic handle that is nice and easy - especially if you will have a child to deal with as well. This we got from PC World.

One of ours came from there Kenny, I bought 1st at Empirdirect(ex electrical store) for £11.78 delivered then tesco had exact same one at £10 incl free mouse and something else I can't remember. Friend got it for us, went thru the till at £8:)

This is ours http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&...=aps&hvadid=4697161389&ref=pd_sl_3sr8iaf7nr_b

Thanks, sounds like a rucksack will be easy to take everything. I will see if I can find a cheap one tomorrow at tesco.

They don't have any on their website just now. http://direct.tesco.com/browse/?Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=PRIMARY&Nr=99&Ntt=targus&N=1999720
Make sure you know size of your laptop screen and whichever you buy is made for a laptop, they have plenty of padding for protection.

The price of these bags vary massively see here http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl...esult_group&ct=title&resnum=3&ved=0CCMQrQQwAg
Anywhere from £11 upto £35 for the same item.

If you'e travelling on a regular flight rather than a holiday charter (eg KLM vs Thomas Cook) then you should get your regular bag + a small laptop bag as entitlement. If I'm travelling on business, I use this facility all the time. Check with your airline though, Google is your friend!:thumbsup2

On DanaUK's recommendation I bought a compupack rucksack. Cameras, chargers, sat nav and laptop were all taken as my hand luggage :)

Can you use laptops on flights?

On all flights yes, if you turn off the WiFi you can use the laptop for work, games, music etc.
On some flights they are now offering a WiFi connection, Delta I know have it on some internal US flights.

be careful, as following the panty bomber, they've reduced carryon allowance to the US....at least they did immediately after the incident....they were allowing only one carry on - either a laptop or a bag but not both..
so best to check with your airline regarding current carry on allowances, in terms of both number and size...

it says this on the Manchester Airport site

Laptops and other large electrical items (e.g. a large hairdryer) have to be removed from cabin baggage and screened separately. A laptop bag will be regarded as your one item that is allowed in the cabin.

and on the Virgin Atlantic site,

Only ONE item of cabin baggage per person will be allowed in the cabin and this must fit under the seat in front or in the overhead locker.

ADDITIONAL CABIN ITEMS PERMITTED

* In addition to the cabin baggage allowance, the following personal items may be carried on board:

* A handbag, pocketbook or purse i.e. which is appropriate to normal travelling dress and is not being used as a container for the transportation of articles which could otherwise be regarded as baggage.

* An overcoat or wrap.

* An umbrella (pointed or/and sharp prohibited) or walking stick.

* A small camera and/or pair of binoculars.

* A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight.

* Infants food for consumption in flight.

* A small amount of duty free goods.

LAPTOPS

If you have a laptop then it is preferable that you take this with you as cabin baggage. The laptop must meet the cabin baggage requirement.
It is permissible for you to remove the actual laptop from the carrying case to meet this requirement.

does that read like I will be okay with laptop bag. and hand bag. My handbag is is one that I wear across the body.

by handbag, you mean a pocketbook/ purse, correct?

then yes, you can take a laptop and a handbag...
but not as in the past a laptop and an additional carryon

Yeah, just the bag I use day to day, for my purse, phone etc, I prefer to keep our passports in it as I am one of those people who has to check I have it every 5 minutes.
