How to surprise my mother?

I just accepted a new job, so we will have some time (and the luxury) of a quick unexpected trip to Disney in a few weeks. I arranged through my mother's boss for her to have the week off to go with me and my DD4. How do you recommend I surprise my mom, who has never been to Disney? She remembers her very old trip to Disneyland years ago and vividly recalls It's a Small World, so I know she will be ecstatic. For me, a large part of the fun is planning and building the excitement to go, which tells me I should surprise her right away. Should I pack for her and tell her late the night before or do it right away?

I would tell her sooner rather than later so she can share in the pre-trip excitement with you! How about dropping an invatation to WDW in her mailbox from Mickey on a Disney postcard (if you can get them where you live) or make one yourself using pictures and such from online. :flower:

Whatever you decide I'm sure it'll be great and you'll all have a great trip!

Myst

i say tell her now so she can share in the excitement of your upcoming trip, plan airfare & pack all necessary items. i like the idea of a postcard or invitation for the trip, what a nice gift.

My mom is helping me surprise DH for his 40th in Dec...she's making a computer certificate (yes, she's the computer whiz in the family) for him to open and then will call and say,

You just turned 40, so what are you going to do now?

I'm hoping he will remember the old commercials "You just won the Super Bowl, so what are you going to do now"

And then I bought the "WDW for adults" book and I"ll tag pages where I hope to get ADR's this weekend. Then he gets to open that too as a present.

Aren't surprises fun!! So call your mom and ask "you've just been nominated for Mom of the year, what are you going to do now?"

MHF :paw:

Buy her a guidebook (like Birnbaums with nice pictures) and wrap it up as a present. Give that to her and wait for her reaction as she opens the gift. Maybe include a note in the book. It will be a surprise and she can use the book over the next few weeks to read about DW and build the excitement.

And don't forget taht grandparents day is also coming up on Sep 11. Maybe you can work that into it also!!! Sounds like great fun! :grouphug:

Thanks for this reminder! As silly as it sounds, I am going to buy my mom a really nice pair of walking/tennis shoes and have the kids give this to her for grandparents day. I am sure she will be taken back by such an odd gift. I am trying to come up with a good poem about walking/always being beside me/supporting me/ yada yada yada to go with it. Then I think I will give her the book/guide to keep her busy reading and excited before the 19th!

We are surprising out kids with a Thanksgiving trip. We plan to pick the up from school and have everything packed already and whisk them away to the hotel (we have a VERY early morning flight and it is better to just stay at the airport hotel)

We have kept this secret since January.

They will be thrilled! I commend you for keeping it secret so long. It would just kill me to wait to tell them! I just planned this upcoming trip at the end of last week, and already I am going nuts thinking about telling my mom.

Have fun!
