How to represent the grandchildren (tattoo related)

So I've been wanting to get a tattoo for years and when I finally decided on what to have done I got waylaid with blood thinners. I'm now finally off them so I have been thinking about my tattoo again.
If any of you are familiar with Tim Cotterill (the frogman) then you know what his sculptures look like. I just love them and decided that I would have each of my kids chose their favorite and that's what I would get. There would be some other artwork around them as well. I'm thinking flowers/vines.
I want to do something to represent the grandchildren as well. I only have the one right now so it needs to be something I could add on as needed. I though maybe butterflies, but that may be too girlie for the boys. I then thought maybe a bee for the boys and butterflies for the girls. Or maybe dragonflies for the boys?
What would be a good compliment do you think?

Me, my best friend, and another friend went and got tattoos together this past July. My best friend got one to signify her grandchildren. Butterflies with the children's first name initials sort of hidden in the wings. She let the grandchildren pic out their butterfly colors. She had the tattoo placed on her foot, and the butterflies are sort of "connected" with a scrolly (sp??) vine.

Here is a pic. It's a tiny, crappy, cellphone pic sorry about that!!! Hard to see it. But it is very nice If you would like to see a better pic, I can get one tomorrow.

She has one grandson and 3 granddaughers.

How about spores?

I know, I know, it sounds silly. I mean like the pretty dandelion that you blow and those pretty white things float away and you make a wish?

You are the dandelion, and your offspring and their offspring fly away and make their own lives, and your wish is that they are happy and healthy.

Just an idea, and it is unisex.

The frog on the front page of his website has a frog sculpture looking up at a flower. Could be a neat way to incorporate it!

Flowers in the birthstone colors of the grandkids. That is what my MIL is doing.
