Do I have the right abbreviation? We will be in Disney next week with my mom and she decided she wants to rent one becase of scoliosis and arthritis in her back. We're worried about the walking. Does she need a Dr's note and do I have to call and rent it ahead of time or can I do it when we get there? Where would I go to do this? :confused3

You can rent an ECV in the parks by going to Guest Relations and ask to rent one. No doctor's note is needed but the ECV's are loaned out on a first come/first served basis. If you go later in the day and the park is really busy, all ECV's might be loaned out. I don't know if you can call ahead and reserve one or not. You will have to fill out a form with your name, address, etc. and pay (I think) $40. When you return the ECV, you will get $5 back. It used to be $10 but was changed to $5 refund a few months ago.

There are also companies in Orlando that rent ECV's for the time you are at Disney and these can be used at your resort as well as the parks. I don't know the names of those rental businesses but if you check the Disabilities Board, I'm sure someone there can help.

Even easier - there's a Disabilities FAQ thread that there which already has all that information!

My dad rented an ECV during our March trip and last September trip. March was super busy at the parks, and even then he never had trouble renting an ECV. Even when he went to return them in the afternoons they always seemed to have at least a few sitting there. I don't think you'll have any trouble renting one. At MK you see them as you enter the security check, they have them to the right by the small gift shop. At Animal Kingdom they are towards the left, we actually had to go into the first gift shop to find where they were. MGM had them over towards the left after you go through security and Epcot I don't remember because I was off with my sister getting my niece her birthday badge. LOL

Have a good trip! 9 more days for me!!! FINALLY in the single digits!!

I just booked an ECV through walker mobility. The folks on the DISabilitities board gave me a couple of recommendations. Walkers will have the ECV waiting for us at the resort when we arrive and pick it up the day we leave. For 10 days we are paying $276.

I agree that you might seriously consider renting one from Walkers. That would give you access to it for times outside of the parks like the Boardwalk or Downtown Disney if you're interested in visiting either.

Follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES Board. The disABILITIES FAQs thread neat the top of the board has the info you are looking for.

Thanks everyone for all of your help!
I think we'll rent right from the parks, then we don't have to worry about taking on the bus etc. She really only needs it for hiking around the parks each day. Thanks again. :goodvibes
6 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

I'm curious, if you aren't renting a car (and even then I don't know how you'd do it) how do you get around to different parks and resorts with a scooter? I know buses are wheelchair accessable, but are they also ECV accesable? I can't imagine how much one of those scooters actually weighs, can't be easy to lift that's for sure.

::yes:: The buses are ECV accessible.
Almost 100% of the buses are equipped to carry either 2 wheelchairs or 2 ECVs. The older buses have lifts, but the newer buses have ramps that slide or fold out from the back door area.

The monorails and most boats are wheelchair/ecv accessible. The smaller "launch" boats are not, but the ones that go from Epcot to the Epcot resorts and MGM are.
