How to pack for December?

We have only been in April. We are going the 1st week of December. Shorts, jeans, what do I need?

You will most likely have to wait till the week before and check the forecast. December can be anything! We went last year the first week in December and wore jeans, long sleeve t-shirt, and a light jacket in the mornings and evenings. It was quite pleasant I've also read that people wear shorts one day and hoodies the next

I have gone many times during the 1st week in december. The only bad thing is you have to pack EVERYTHING.. It is the best most beautiful time, but you will probably wear shorts with a T-Shirt and sweatshirt in the AM and lose the sweatshirt in the afternoon. Then you will probably need pants at night. Lots of layers. Last Dec it was really mild and we wore shorts even most nights. On our 2006 Dec trip it was cold and rainy so you never know.

Definitely check the forecast the week before...and no matter what it says, pack a sweater or two. When we were there in Dec, it was warm one day, fairly nice the next and downright cold the next. I actually bought gloves that day! The stores had brought out their 'winter' gear that day and people were buying hats, scarves and gloves like they were going out of style!

Short answer? Yes, to all of the above. Weather in December can range from over 80 degrees and feeling hot during the day to dropping into the 40s with a cold wind at night that will leave you chilled to the bone if you aren't prepared. Honestly your best bet is to wait until close to your trip, check out the Orlando stations for predictions, and then back accordingly, with at least one opposite outfit (warm clothes if they say hot, cooler clothes if they say cold) for everyone as a backup. That time of year is often what we call "Wrap and Peel" - wrap up in multiple layers for the chilly morning, peel them off when the day warms up, then wrap them back on for the chilly nights again.

I hate to say it, but we religiously followed the forecasts on 2 internet weather sites up until the day we left for our early Dec trip last year and the forecasts were totally off. In fact, I didn't pack a single pair of shorts, only took capris and it was much warmer than predicted - I was just lovely....hot and sweaty every day! We didn't wear our sweatshirts once, not even in the evening for the late CP and stopped carting them to the park after a few days. This year I am going to pack a little bit of everything!

I purchased those zip off pants that turn into shorts for my sons. I am hoping that they can double for shorts and pants. Now I am trying to find a similar option for my daughter. With five of us flying down to Orlando over Thanksgiving, I'm trying to conserve my room in the suitcases.

A littlelbit of everything MY SIL went last december and they wore shorts during the day and pants and hoodies at night. We went in January and it was in the high 80's all week till the last day then it was 60.

I went twice in December, 2000-01, and 2004-2005. the same thing happened both times. We were hit with freezing weather. We just packed light with no coats or anything. We had to buy pull overs because all the coats were gone.

We are from NJ and we left a blizzard thinking how great that was, but florida got it too, no snow though!! Both times it was too cold to be outside for the New Years Eve! it was 20-30 degrees.

So make sure you check the weather, hopefully you don't get what I did!!

We went early last December and it was beautiful. We wore shorts and t-shirts and were able to go swimming for almost the entire week. However, the last day or so we were there, a cold front came through and it got really chilly. Thankfully, dh had packed a few long sleeve shirts and I did pack a few things for the kids (just forgot about me!) So, I borrowed one of dh's shirts and was still cold.

I agree with previous posters. December is awesome - but a mixed bag on weather. We've been a couple of times. Last year we needed only sweatshirts and light jackets at night, but I have pictures of the kids, from our '04 trip, in winter coats, hats, gloves and with blankets across their laps while watching the MVMCP Parade. Florida can get cold at night - especially if a cold front comes through while you're there.

Hope you enjoy your trip though - like I said, December is awesome - we love it that time of year!!

We almost always go to WDW for a week or so in December. Some days, we've worn shorts and tshirts, other days we've had to wear coats, hats, and gloves.

Basically, pack everything that you own.

Have to agree with everyone! I've been at WDW in December 2003, 2004 and 2007. The years 2003 and 2004 were nice overall, but had at least one or two nights that were wicked cold and a couple of drizzly, cooler days. Most evenings were cool, the days comfortable.

In 2007, we were at WDW 10 nights. The first 7 nights it was so warm that you didn't even need long sleeves--except in the air conditioning! The 8th night cooled of a bit, the 9th night was down right cold, as was our last night. The temperature was about 35 degrees at 1:00 p.m. when we left WDW to return home! *BRRRRR*

Went Dec. 15-22, 2007 and we wore it all- everything from shorts to hoodies. Lots to pack... but I'd do it again in a heartbeat
