Got a question...We are going to Disney for the fist time in 10 years next weekend. I am so excited. But....my hubby has been sick with a terrible neurological disease that hurts him so terribley and the crowds really make him nervous. Do you have any tips on how I can make this trip as fun as possible for him. I told I thought we should get one of those electric carts but he says he will be too embarrased. What do you think?

Cahck out the disAbilities board here - they have wonderful hints/support for people with specialneeds/considerations.

One thing you might consider getting is a guest assistance card, or GAC. There's lots of info on the GAC at the diasAbilities board.

Hope this helps,

Schmeck

Try to avoid peak crowds by going to parks early in the morning, or much later at night. Take lots of breaks. If he's not feeling well, maybe he could spend some relaxation time at the resort.
He could nap, watch tv, go to the pool(if he's up for that), or have a snack while you burn off some energy at the parks. There are theaters at DTD, so there's another opportunity to chill out for a couple of hours(and it's nice and cool inside).

Do check out the DisAbilities board here for more info but if having an ECV would help him get around and enjoy the parks he should take advantage of it. Having the ECV or getting a GAC generally does not give the person a shorter wait time - they have to wait the same amount of time for an attraction as other folks, but it could make his wait more comfortable.

I am so sorry to hear about your husbands pain. DS is in a wheelchair and when I get his GAC card I have them put that he can't wait in the direct sun. DS takes meds that make him very sun sensitive as well as if he overheats he has seizures. They usually put us in the exit line which is usually indoors. We still wait (although I must admit is is usually a lot shorter than if we were outside.) We do not use this pass at all rides. If the line is in the shade or it is not to sunny out we wait in the regular line. Maybe this would help your DH as there are usaully no lines in the "exit" line and relatively no crowds. There are usaully a few other people waiting with us (Some in wheelchairs like DS some in electric scooters and many with nothing). I think you may need to have a Dr's note. We always bring one with us to show when we pick up the pass. I hope this helps.

It's funny that the people who really need assistance like ECVs and wheelchairs are the ones who are hestitant to use them, while the 'cheaters' have no shame.

Do everything possible to get your husband to use an ECV (scooter). They will make his visit and yours much more enjoyable, especially in the heat and crowds of the summer.
