We have not flown in 17 years! Could someone give some tips on how to make luggage stand out from the crowd at the airports? My luggage is navy.Pretty common I would imagine. Also how do I make sure all our luggage stays together? We are eight people with at least one large piece each. Thanks!

Bright Bandanas, swirly ribbon, and you can get some bright Lime Green items right here on the Dis!!

I just bought the Lime Green Dis luggage tag and key chain!

I also found Lime Green luggage tags at Walmart as well.

Putting stickers on the wheels, I've heard of!

Hope this helps!

You can put something distinctive on you luggage that will make it different from the others. You need to think of something that is easy to recognize, but that other people may not be using. My last trip through the airport, about half the bags had curly ribbon on the handles, and everyone had to check the tags anyways. A lot of people do something cute like ribbon, or little dolls, etc. But when everyone is doing the same thing, it just doesn't help.
I went a different direction; I put something ugly on the handle, black and yellow industrial rope, spliced around the handle and melted so it can't come off. I always know which luggage is mine, it's not big enough to look too ugly, but you can see it as soon as it comes out. Try to think of something you like, and can easily recognize; somethinig sturdy enough so that it won't fall off, but doesn't get in the way.
As to how to keep them together for when they come off, I couldn't begin to guess.

This is ugly, but it works for us to find our generic black bags. I put a big letter (our last initial) on the front and back of each bag with masking tape.

use fluorescent duct tape - really stands out! also, try using large stickers as well

Sold our navy luggage a year ago and replaced it with red. Then put on Passporter Guide luggage tags.

I use colored tape on all sides of the bags. Yellow and red seem to stand out best on my bags.

I used a stencil and fabric paint in bright colors on my green luggage. Created my own design for the front and back.

On DH, I used Puffy Paint (makes it stand out about 1/4") in a gold tone on a Black bag. Free handed his initials about 2 1/2" high on the front and back as well. Puffy painted names on shoulder straps of carry bag.

That was 7 years ago and they still in great condition. They are one of a kind.

We tied red, white, blue ribbon on handle. Worked like a charm ;)

Ditto on the duct tape. Put your initails on your suitcase with the duct tape

My mil ties big red pompoms to the handles.

I did the red duct tape on our last trip. Everyone in my party laughed at me till it was time to get the luggage off the carosel. It worked awesome.

Go with luggage that is not black!!!

All of the black rolling suitcases look identical. I think it is a riot watching people when they think someone has taken their suitcase. Who needs that stress at the beginning or end of a vacation?

I now have red suitcases. While more people are buying these, they are still in the minority.

Have fun!

The best thing I ever saw was duct tape on a black bag and the words written were, "This is not your bag" Priceless!:p

Thanks so much everybody!!!
It looks like duct tape-in neon colors- wins the popular vote.
