okay, my DH is at his wits end. Our kitten (6 months old) will not stop climbing the christmas tree. Any ideas on how to put a stop to this?? Our tree is starting to look pretty bad.....

thanks!

I had cats several years ago and I just could not keep them out of the tree. We ended up having to use fishing line and anchor the tree to the wall so they wouldn't tip it over.

Do they still make that stuff you spray to keep cats off furniture? Maybe that would work. It didn't for mine, but you never know. Good luck. I miss having furry family members!

No idea. Tie to the ceiling is my advice. That's what we do. We have a cat who's going to be 8 in March and we STILL can't keep her out of the tree.

We put tin foil all around the tree. You'll have to use lots of it. Most cats won't walk on tin foil and this will break kitty of the habit. We had to do this years ago with DD's crib, too. Good luck!

How would the tin foil thing work?? I can't picture it. My sister is getting another cat this week and she was wondering about this being a possible problem.

When SIL was staying with us, her cat clawed at our couch. DH caught it a couple times and sprayed it with a water from a squirt gun. It stopped after 2 squirtings. It's kinda mean, but it might work.

where exactly would I put the foil?? Let me know, I will have to try this!
thanks- Jen

My cats don't like tin foil. We had to put it under our sofas because our first cat, Mikey, pulled the underfabric off the couch and climbed inside it! I lined both couchs underneath and they won't go there now.

Perhaps just laying a wide path of tin foil under the tree, maybe even wrapping it around the lower part of the tree.
We haven't picked ours out yet, but I am going to try this tactic. Better than using that nasty spray! (we had to spray the arms of our couchs with it..........yuck)

Oh, and cats don't like sticky. So maybe some double sided tape would help also? I had to wrap that around the top of our guinea pigs cage because kitty #2, Tigerlily, kept climbing into his cage and lounging in there. Poor pig would huddle in the corner!

We just aren't putting ours up until like a week before XMas. We gave up on fighting the cat-in-tree problem years ago  Now we decorate the outside of the house a whole lot more, and skip the tree until right before the holiday. It's better than fighting with the cat for a month :rolleyes2

I was very afraid to put up my tree this year with a puppy and kitten in the house (not to mention the 2 year old dog and two 4 year old cats) but to my amazement they have left the tree alone! I guess they have enough other things to get into in the house that they don't need to be bothered! The kitten and puppy are a VERY bad pair!

I know the spray bottle works on the kitten - she tends to want to be on the kitchen counter and all I have to do now is pick up the hose from the sink and she takes off the other way - we squirted her just once with it!
Good luck!
