Sorry, I know this has been talked about before, but the search feature isn't working right now :headache: How did you ID your kids in case they got lost? I just want to put our cell numbers on them somewhere, but not sure how to go about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!! :goodvibes

We used safety tatoos (personalized with DH's cell phone) and I love them:

Other options are lanyards to wear around the neck that hold an ID card, dog tags with a cell phone number attached to shoelaces, a sticker on the back of the shirt (so they can't pull it off) with a cell phone number, or personalized silicon bracelets like these (can buy in small quantities):

That's all I can think of right now. Keep in mind that whatever you use has to be easily viewed on the child as CM's won't look under clothes or inside things.

We have sooooo many extra luggage tags that I just wrapped one around their belt loop and tucked in into their pocket.

I saw a really clever way when we were at WDW a few weeks ago. I saw 2 little girls with pet id tags.

Now before anyone judges the idea hear me out.

The tags were little red hearts that were pinned to their shirts with the info turned inward. I liked the idea because it was noticeable and sturdy. I liked how she had their info hidden by pinning them so the info faced their chest instead of out and if the kids did get separated from the mom and dad, it was very obvious what those tags were for. If you didn't want to pin them you could get a chain and wear them like dog tags as well. And they cost about $5-$7 to have them inscribed at you local pet shop.;)

We didn't. We just instructed them to find the closest CM.

The CM's have a procedure they must follow with a lost child. They will not search the child for a phone number. If they do see the phone number they will follow there proceedure regardless.

I had dogtags made up for all 5, with my cell, DH's cell, and the resort we were staying at. They were instructed, if lost, to find a mommy, and she would get them to a CM, and they would show the CM their tag (yes, my 10 and 12 year olds know our cell numbers, but you never know what you might forget in a panic).

I made a laminated card with her name and the names of everyone in our group, their relation to her as well as her cell phone numer. I put this card in a pocket card I made. That will go in her lanyard/plastic pouch thing.

We also attached a whistle in case she can't find us. We've told her if you see we're not there blow this and either we'll or someone will hear and can help. We've practiced this a little at home as she was starting to get scared.

Also, we had a family night and discussed being S.A.F.E.
S--Stay with us
A--Ask permission to go look at something or go somewhere
F--Find help if you can't find us (showed pictures of cast members and their tags)
E--Explain your lost and show them your info in the pocket.

We had pictures to go with everything, so hopefully it's a non-issue, but better safe than sorry.

All American I love your whistle idea and drills...
Where did you find pictures of CMs and their tags?
can you post a link?
thanks

Some people do tatoos...I decided to check out the creative Disign boards and saw that someone makes tatoos. Instead of buying the tatoo paper I decided to get t shirt transfer paper and iron them on the inside of their shirts. And since my youngest will only be 2, I am going to try to figure something out for him. My older son will be able to tell a CM about the tag whereas my younger one can't so maybe i will try to put an id card on him somewhere....

Thanks! I actually got the whistle idea from my dad who, while in the airport, saw a family with a couple of little girls who were all wearing whistles. So, kudos to those smart parents and to my dad for noticing and passing it along to me.

As for the tags, I found this webpage with a clipart version of the tag. I hope this link works as I am not exactly sure how to do this:

http://disney-stationary.com/printables/cast-member-name-tags.php

If those don't work, I just googled "Walt Disney World cast member tag". I also printed up different a couple of pictures of cast members with tags (one in a store, some dancing street sweepers, and even Cinderella (because her helpers are cast members) so she'd see different kinds of cast members with that tag in common.

I was afraid it would be information overload, as she is a little over 4. But I think kids are smarter than they are sometimes given credit for. We only spent about 10 minutes on the whole thing but have a big blank wall by the T.V. We hung everything up and figure she'll see it and something will stick.

We made up a dog tag at our local pet supply superstore. A few dollars - it is cute red heart and has "mom's cell and my number" we put it through her sneaker laces. We have had many CMs tell us what a good idea - very visable.

For my son on our last trip I laminated some small ID cards with his name, our names, the resort we were staying at and my cell phone #. I pinned it to the back of his shirt or shorts each day. That way he didn't know that it was there but made me feel better that he had some sort of ID in case he got lost.

We've used these wristbands for years (http://www.idonme.com/) . . . every time we go somewhere that's going to be crowded. They come with a number of inserts where you can write whatever you want (names, cell phone numbers, resort name, etc.). They fold up and fit inside the wristband. They are waterproof too. We lost my DS right outside of Tower of Terror a couple of years ago when he thought we'd left the gift shop, and he went to look for us. He went up to a CM and showed her his wristband. We happened to find him (after 10 minutes of panic) standing with the CM just as she was about to call our cell phone. The kids don't mind wearing them either.

That doesn't work for a toddler though since many lack the communication skills to even understand who a CM is. I'm putting the phone number on my DD and IF she were to get lost, I would assume at some point they would call the number since she can't speak.

Our local Walmart has a dog tag making machine where I made dog tags with each kid's name and our cell phone numbers. (They even had cute Disney designs!) The kids wore the dog tags tucked under their shirts, and we talked about showing them to a CM if they were ever separated from us. Luckily we never needed them!

We took a plastic keychain that we could write on, put our cell phone # on it, and looped it through two of the holes in the kids crocs.
