How to - holiday "decoration"

DH is coordinating a "Christmas market" in our town and needs some help. I told him I was sure that my Dis friends would find a sollution to his problem

Well, here goes. In Denmark we frequently visited a christmas market (outdoors) where they had hot coal to warm your hands over, like in the old days (vision 1930´s). He needs something like that.

The coals that were used, seemed to get extra hot and stayed that way for a long time. We don´t know if there was also gas involved. Does anyone know what we mean and where to find this?

My dad can still get coal here for a steam boat he used to run. But I'm not sure what you can find in Iceland.
