We are going to be in Orlando for a week at the end of June for a school conference- with AP's burning a hole in our Passporter! I definitely want to spend some time in Disney - but we have only been in December, February and early March - never warmer than 80 degrees. How do you fight the heat and still enjoy the parks?

hi: i think the most common suggestions are to go out early, make sure you drink lots of water, have lunch in a nice, cool restaurant , take an afternoon break out of the heat either inside or in a pool, and head back for the evenings in the parks.

The spray bottles with the fans attached are a necessity! It is even better to have a little one with you who thinks it is great to keep spraying everyone. That way you don't have to carry it. Make sure to bring an extra set of batteries.

We've only gone in June, and it really isn't that oppressive! We freeze water bottles the night before so they stay cold. Water mister fans are great. Wear hats & sunglasses. DRINK, DRINK, DRINK plenty of water! Taking a pool break at your resort and an afternoon lunch in an air-conditioned restaurant are essential.
Have a wonderful time!:D

water water water.

misty fans

afternoon breaks.

tie long hair up while wet, so it stays wet and cool and out of your way.

spray deoderant on your feet before heading out.

change shoes during your afternoon break.

Drink plenty of water, try to eat lunch inside of a building or under an umbrella, take a break. If you like being wet, then hit the water rides.

Having been in August 3 times so far, here is what works well for us..

*Stay hydrated... sodas and alcohol will have the opposite effect, so drink plenty of good old fashioned water.
* Wear lightweight, light colored clothes to reflect the sun, instead of absorbing it.
* Wear a lightweight light colored brimmed hat to protect your scalp and face from the sun.
* Wear at least SPF 15 sunscreen and apply liberally every couple of hours
* As much as you might want to peel off those tshirts, they actually keep you cooler, because when you sweat they absorb the sweat that evaporates and that keeps you cooler. Besides they don't allow anyone in the parks without shirts, shoes or some sort of pants, skirt, shorts, etc.
* Make sure you wear breathable, comfortable shoes with cotton socks. Take a change of socks with you, and some bandaids or moleskin if you are prone to blisters. Powder stick deodorant on blister prone places on your feet will help to prevent that problem.
* Do the bulk of your touring during the early morning or late afternoon/evening. AK is gets especially hot after about 11 am, so we usually do that park in 2 mornings.. or go back late to see the parade
* Take breaks during the hot part of the day. This is when we schedule our sitdown meal in an airconditioned restaurant. Or go back to your room, swim or shower, and change clothes. Or just find a shady place and kick back for awhile.
* Invest in a mister fan... not only will it help cool you off, but it will entertain the kids.
* Don't feel shy about playing in those fountains with the kids.
* Don't fret about the rain... it does help to cool things off.
* Know your signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion... and if you feel them, go to the nearest first aide station. Any Castmember will be glad to take you there...

Usually when I go to WDW it's hot weather. I really enjoy it but I find that some things work well for the time of year. I like to head to the parks nice and early. THe crowds are usually pretty good at this time. The weather is also nice. It's not bad that early in the morning. I like to stay in the parks till about lunch time or early afternoon when it gets HOT and crowded and then head to the pool at the resort. THis gives u a chance to cool off, relax, regroup, and get ready for a night at the parks or downtown disney! Oh, also drink lots of water and maybe consider bringing a spray bottle or buy one at the parks. It's a good way to cool off. Make sure to do lots of water rides too :D

Besides the other suggestions, we bought Aqua Cool neck bands at WalMart for under $3 and they were a life saver last May. In the sporting goods dept. They are just a bandana with these gel beads sewn in, and they swell when soaked in water. Wear around your neck and they helped me in 95 degree heat. They stayed swelled for a long time, but I kept refreshing them in drinking fountains and ice water throughout the day to stay fresh. They are re-usable. We soaked in our bathroom sink before we left in the am in ice water, carried in a plastic bag, and then put on when we felt the heat.

My other suggestions:

1) A superior walking/running sandals. No sweaty socks for me

2) Everybody, girls and boys wore boys style swim trunks with the meshie undies--tanks tops.

3) I could get by with it, but no bra---Just those tanks with a built in one.

4) Hats and sunglasses for everyone. Bought spare glasses at Dollar tree so my kids had spares when they twisted them, sat on them, whatever.

We went last September and the heat and humidity was oppressive. We took changes of shirts and changes of socks with us each day. I can't tell you how much it helped. Sometimes a dry clean shirt and a change of socks can make a huge difference in a hot person's badness level. lol

We enjoyed the little fans we took too. Instead of buying the mister type fans, we picked up the Dollar Tree fan only type that was on a lanyard. We brought a wet hotel washcloth in a ziploc bag and used it as needed to clean off and reduce the icky sweat. The cleaned off skin and with the fan was heavenly. This combo was quite helpful at AK. I swear they ship in "Africa hot" to make the place authentic. lol

Drink lots of water or Powerade. Staying hydrated is a must. You know it's bad when you can drink (5) 20oz bottles of fluids and only need to urinate once.

This got us through. I wish you well. Our next trip will be a cool one, if we are lucky. Mickey
