I have taken my DD's out several times, I'm trying to think.
Let's see first time 3rd and 6th, second time 4th and 7th, third time 6th and 9th, then 8th and 11th, then 9th and 12th and finally last year youngest was in 11th.
Except for once we go the first or second week in December. We find there is more free time at our school during these times. I have found nothing but support except for once. One science teacher was so excited her whole assignment was to video tape and narrate hydroponics. One year it was a journal in English and document the science behind a couple of rides in science. Some years teachers have said forget the homework, you can catch up over Christmas break. Advanced science and math teacher said if you get behind just stay after school for a few days and I'll tutor you.
The one time a teacher said to my daughter why couldn't we wait until Christmas break. She explained that as a nurse our hospital would not allow us this time off. He was okay after that.
Their grades have never suffered and they didn't require the extra tutoring. Our school is quite small and in some respects that is a drawback. Other ways it is a blessing, most of the teachers know who my DH and I are our kids are good students with good behavior and very, very few absences (sp?) They are my kids after all and not the schools. DD # 1 is now finishing up her sophmore year in college and attends her classes everyday. Both girls understand you don't just skip for no reason, and in our family, family is first. And our school understands that kids are only kids once and that parents are the best deciders of what is best for their children.
DD #1 graduated 4th in her class, DD#2 is currently 7th. Maybe if school were difficult for them, or they had an attitude problem with it my decision may have been different.
