Hello. I just booked a Savannah view room at AKL. I was there in Oct. on the 5th floor of Kudu Trail. It took FOREVER to get to the pool and Mara (we were concierge so didn't need Mara but once).
This time I requested Zebra Trail, to be closer to pool and Mara and Boma. Are there other doors that lead to the pool than the ones outside of Boma/Jiko waiting areas? This probably sounds idiotic but I do not know the answer for certain. I am hoping to get a room CLOSE TO THE ELEVATORS and on Zebra Trail and perhaps walk out to the pool/get to Mara via a side door. Thanks to anyone who can answer~

There are two elevators and a door at the other end of the Mara area, right by Simba's Clubhouse as well.

:teeth: Good luck! We had Savannah view on Zebra Trail and I got LOST the first day or 2!::yes:: DH and both kids knew the way, so I just followed them :o . One time when I made the trek back up early, I ended up getting off on one floor(2 I think) and it was not where I needed to be(our room was on 2, but this was not rooms) and went around in a circle and got back on another elevator and ended up in the SAME place! I still don't know what happened! I got lost at WL too, so it is just me.:p The elevators Shells9 tells of DOES sound familiar and the right thing to do.:D

Good luck! We only found the one way to the pool, too. And one day I explored all over the hotel (found extra laudry rooms), but only the one way to the pool.

About half way down the zebra trail there is an elevator that goes down to the pool area. If you look at this map, see that Trianglar lobby area where the wing splits. The elevators are there. http://allearsnet.com/acc/aklmap3.jpg

We had the Zebra trail when we stayed at AKL. We used that elevator all the time. It was great. The bottom opens in front of the kids club and right out the door there is Mara and the pool.

We bought the refillable mugs, it made it really convienent to run down and get a drink when we were in the room.

Thanks everyone! I requested "Zebra Trail", too, so I'm hoping I will get it. This will make Mara and the pool MUCH more convenient. It really is quite a hike from Kudu Trail, especially if you're WAY down:teeth:
I can't wait to be back at The Lodge:earsgirl:

I read these threads and wonder How Big is AKL?

We are staying there in February, is it a hike to get from one area to another. We have stayed at CBR and POR, both were hikes if you do not like walking. Last year we stayed at Poly, loved this resort. Everything is within walking distance. I have read some threads saying things were a long walk at the Poly, but after our 2 previous stays, I loved the Poly walks.

Now I'm hearing everything at AKL is a hike to get to. We do not have small children, and I can understand with small children sometimes a little distance can be a lot farther then it really is.

Does AKL have long hikes or average hikes?

We got a free upgrade from std to savannah view so we didn't care where I room was. It was just a few rooms from the end of one side of the hotel. My dh thinks our room was about 1/2 mile from the bus stop. You have to walk all the way back to the lobby, out the front and down the walkway to the bus.

Several times he decided the walk to Mara for free refills was just too long and he drank soda we brought with us.

The walk is considerable, but at least it's attractive. I am used to staying at GF in a lodge, so I'm used to having a bit of a stroll to the monorail or buses but not the pool (also, GF has 2 pools). AKL has almost 1300 rooms and it's all in one building with very long "wings", that's all. All your walking is indoors. It's just a LONG way to the pool if you're all the way down Kudu Trail, simple as that. If you're on Zebra Trail or Giraffe Trail, you'll be much closer to both the pool and Mara. I haven't stayed at PO or CBR but, again, I think the reason it seems so far at AKL is that all the walking is indoors, down LONG, although attractive, hallways:earsgirl:

And all the room doors look the same on those long hallways. I know....I got confused one day and kept trying to put my key in someone elses's door.
