We were fortunate to have minor damage to our home with no flooding. We have a house full of relatives and I am in need of some "Mickey time". If I can figure out a route to get to WDW I might be able to get hubby to drive up there for a couple of days.

Does anyone know of a website that says what roads are open/closed?

thanks in advance :flower:

Hi,

We're probably driving now since Katrina also took out the airport, so DH checked the roads a few days ago.

Not sure exactly where you're driving from, but we're driving from near Baton Rouge. I-10 is open in Louisiana, and in Mississippi the eastbound bridge in Pascagoula is closed but they made the westbound bridge one lane each way for 3.2 miles. No closures in Alabama.
This is according to the websites for the state departments of transportation.
Mississippi: http://www.mississippi.gov/frameset.jsp?URL=http://www.gomdot.com

Louisiana: http://www.lsp.org/roadandincident.nsf/$ViewAll?OpenView
(Not sure why this link isn't working, but if you copy it and paste it into your Internet browser it will take you to the page.)

Alabama: http://www.dot.state.al.us/closures/

Now the next question should be will we be able to find gas anywhere.

I didn't even think to check the department of transportation..duh!! We are driving from Destrehan...right outside of Kenner (MSY)

All we can do is cross our fingers about the gas situation..kinda hard to plan that out. Now, I just have to figure out how to get my DH to go along with the plan :cool1:

I hope you have a fantastic trip!! Good luck with the gas situation :cheer2:

Thank you & God Bless,

Wouldn't you have to take I-12 (if open?) north of New Orleans?
I-10 from NO to Slidell is not going to be open. There's hardly a road left over the water.

According the the Louisiana State Police and news sources I-12 is open. She'll probably have to go through the Baton Rouge area, but that's a pretty minor detour.
You're right, I-10 from New Orleans to Slidell is closed. They are anticipating having the westbound (I think) side up with one lane each way before the eastbound side will be fixed.

Thanks! I hope you get to take your trip and have a good one as well.

Thanks ironz, yeah, that's pretty important. But detouring through Baton Rouge shouldn't be too bad. The city of Baton Rouge is going to have to consider making some improvements to the roadways...as in increasing the amount of lanes. Traffic was always heavy before but now it is like a parking lot.

Bengalbelle, I am very suprised at the news of 1-10 reopened so soon...it sure looked like they had some major issues going on there. But, hey....it would be great!

Still trying to get this trip into a reality... :wizard:

Have a great day you guys!!

We are driving that route, only we are leaving from Houston. I will post when we get home about the gas and roads for you if you would like. I have been the DOT in LA, AL and MS most frequent guest for the last 2 weeks. We thought about cancelling, but with the signs of I-10 and I-12 being open, we are going to try to make it. We leave on Thursday (9/15) at 2am (to make it through B.R. before rush hour(s) start--we will be there about 6:30 am) and will be back on Tuesday (9/20). We are not going to WDW, but to Destin, FL. So I will be able to get you through the rough road ways--hopefully!!

When will you be coming back? I'm just wondering if you'll report in before we leave on 9/25 :)

I cant wait to here any reports. We are leaving 9-30 at 5pm hoping to head down I-49 cut through Baton Rouge and catch I-12 then back to I-10. We have a back up route but its going to be much longer and have some back roads.

We will be back on 9/20. I will post on this thread!!! :sunny:

I can't speak for other areas, but you should be fine coming through the Baton Rouge area that evening :flower:
