how to get DARK background

Click on your username in the dark blue bar near the top
A drop-down menu will appear with several items -- click on Preferences
A pop-up menu will appear, at the top is Style and is likely set to "default style." Click in this box for a drop-down selection of other style choices. You might be looking for "Dark Scheme."
