my twins decided to color their car seat straps with a crayon. lovely. any idea how to get it out?

crayola.com has tips for getting crayon out of anything. It worked when my daughter left a box of crayons on the seat of my van in the summer...

Try that Mr. Clean eraser. That seems to clean everything.

Try Goo Gone. It's oil based (at least it looks it) & it works on taking some strange stains out!

Are the straps you can remove? If they are you could remove them & use a low heat iron. Just put a layer or 2 of paper towels over the strap & iron. the wax (crayon) will soak into the paper towel. Move the paper towel to absorb all the crayon.

Check Crayola.com. DS11 colored a large spot on his jeans when he was little and I got my info there. If I remember correctly, it involved spraying the stain with WD40, then rubbing in Dawn Dishwashing detergent to remove the WD40. After a couple of times, it came out.

I think WD40 can be used to remove Silly Putty, too. If I remember correctly.;)

Not sure, but make sure that whatever method you use, other than simple soap and water, that the chemical does not in any way weaken the strength of the straps, leading to breaking in an accident.

Also, chemicals can leave a residue. If your kids are young enough to be in safety seats they probably still put their hands in their mouths. Goof Off and Goo Gone work great on some things but they are really nasty.

Try WD40, my 3 year old occasionally gets artistic with crayons, markers, pens, etc. and this has worked well so far on my walls, tables and leather couches. Good luck!:goodvibes

No, no...no goo gone, no WD40!

Get out the owner's manual for your seat. It will tell you and/all acceptable ways to clean the harness straps. They cannot be soaked or they may start to break down, and you cannot use chemicals on them. If the manual isn't clear please call the manufactuer's 800 #.

Sell the car.

Seriously, I'd clean it as best as I could and leave it alone. Who cares if there are crayon marks on the seat belts? Not me. Kids ruin some stuff. I'd chalk it up to that and not care. But, that's me.

thanks all! I was actually selling the seats since my kids have moved on to boosters, and I had sold them with no stains or rips. they didn't do much damage, but really wanted them to be perfect, ya know? I did try a magic eraser and some wipes to no avail, and in the end just brought them as is.

good to know about the integrity of the straps breaking down if subjected to chemicals or soaked.

ooh ooh ohh, I know this one. It worked for me however it was the car upholstery, not the belt. Use a hair dryer to "melt" it, when it gets soft enough, start scraping it away. takes a while though. This also works for crayon on walls in the house.:laundy:

Krud Kutter=lowe's or home depot
Non toxic

I  Krud Kutter, but I don't think it's going to take out wax. I have been using this stuff for many years, it is wonderful for getting dirt off of walls w/o damaging the paint!

I agree with Dan and another PP. The integrity of the seat belts may be compromised by using a cleaner, chemical, heat, or even soaking. I would leave it alone, OP.

But if the kids color on their jeans, WD40 and Dawn are the way to go!
