I have a throw pillow that I will have to take apart to wash. I just found gum on it. I have ice cubes sitting on it now. After I attempt to scrape it off, what else can I do?

If the ice doesn't work, I can't think of anything that wouldn't require washing afterwards. Sorry I couldn't help.

You could try putting the pillow in the freezer for a time. It might harden the gum better than the ice cubes. Then try to scrape the gum off with a butter knife. If not, I found suggestion:

If the fabric is non-washable…

To remove gum stains from non washable items, you should sponge the stained area with a cleaning fluid such as Energine or Renuzit or Carbona. You can usually get these products in drug stores or houseware departments.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I am making great strides with the ice cubes but I may need something for the residue. I am glad I scotchguarded it before.

Try using a dry toothbrush on it after you get done scraping. Freeze it again beforehand.

Also you can try using a dab of baby oil on it before brushing it, then use a solvent to remove the oil stain.

And keep the gum from the kids from now on ;)

Heloise says to put a metal bowl full of ice on the gum, let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then pick at the gum/alternate with the ice.

It is so weird that I saw this post tonight.
While I was at work yesterday, I noticed my jean jacket on the chair in the break room & on the back shoulder was a big wad of dried (blue) gum. I don't chew gum and I've only worn this coat once this fall....to a high school football game! So, I guess I got it attached to my jacket there, hung it up when I came home from the game and never noticed it till I wore it again yesterday!
Well, I work in a restaurant so 1st thing I did was hang it up in the walk in freezer!(convenient!) Later that day I took a butter knife to it, most of it is gone, but now I'm not sure if I should wash it...or should I say ...what should I wash it in and do you think the rest will come out in the wash?
