How to get a Coral Reef diver sign

I have been trying and trying to find out how I would go about getting a diver sign held up during our meal. My mom and I are going in May for her birthday and I would really love to do this. I know numerous people have asked for this on the DIS and I was just wondering the details, etc.

It looks like we'll be at WDW at the same time!! I am also doing a diver sign and menu for my parents for their anniversary. You call the restaurant directly (not wdw dine) and you'll speak to either meredith or debbi and just say that you have ressies to eat there and give her the date and you may need ur confirm # if not they can look that up and she'll ask you what you want to say on the divers sign and then when you check in theres a 98% chance you'll get a window seat for the divers sign. The sign is free and book it asap b/c they only do so many for lunch and dinner. If you want to do a personalized menu, that also is free, whomever you speak with will give you her email and you can email them pics and a saying/quote and that will be presented at your meal. If you need the # for CR let me know. My family and I will be there on Fri May 18th and we are praying that we can set up the boat cruise for eliminations for my dad as an early fathers day gift and we're sending my mom to the spa!!!!

We did this in January and it was fun. One word of caution, I had read that there are times when the staff does not follow through and that it is a good idea to double check. I called before we left to confirm and was told it was in place. I emailed pictures but was not able to get a response back before we left. The CR called my DD cell phone 2 days before our meal and confirmed everything, but told us that the pictures would not open. Oh well, not a problem. When we arrived for dinner no one knew anything about the diver or that we had been in contact as recently as two days prior, and seated us on the upper tier. The manager did move us and the diver appeared and it was the most memorable moment of my DH trip, as the sign was for him. Just make sure that you call and confirm because the messages seem to get lost at times.

I'm goning in June and it will be two weeks after my mom's 70th birthday. I have an ADR for the first night we are down at Coral Reff. I don't need to have a diver sign, but was wondering if I could get a personalized menu for her (which I didn't know about). She doesn't want a party or anything special for her b-day but I thought that would be a nice surprise.

Any advise would be great.

I'm glad you said that. I spoke with Meredith who said she was the manager at CR so I'm hoping that she would be responsible enough to get the plans in order but I do understand they are super busy and things get lost. She did tell me that when I email the pics that she will respond that she got them or not, but if she does respond, I will be sure to double check that everything is in line for our trip! and maybe I will call back before we leave just to confirm everything once more. Thanks for the advice!!

I have heard about the diver thingy, but what do you mean by personalized menu? Do you mean they'll print up a menu that would have the person's name and photo on the front? And then a saying like "happy 13th birthday" on it?

I would love to help make my son's b-day dinner special, since I won't be able to be with him on the actual day of his birthday (I am matron of honor in a disney wedding that day, will be tied up for majority of the day I'm sure) And 13 is an important one! A teenager!! Thanks!

~baby, the personalized menu is i guess a print out menu and you send CR some pics and what you would like it to say and I belive the pics are in the middle of the menu or maybe on the front, I'm not too sure but they appear somewhere! and that is free too. You just have to call CR and they will give you an email address to send the pics and saying to. let me know if you need the # too!

We did not get the menu. It was supposed to be done and we discussed what would be on it, but my DH got one with a "Happy Birthday" message. It was fine though. I think that it is a hit or miss thing, but really nice when it all works out. They did try very hard to make it special, and the diver was so much fun!

How do people find out about these special "extras"? I have gone through numerous books and websites in preparation for my trip and have not come across both the free diver sign or the menus on anything besides the DIS. Is is some kind of secret? Anything else I am missing??

BTW: I have ordered the sign, which I hope there will be no problem with....Do you think the menu is worth it? Anyone have scans of their personalized ones?

I have no idea who started it!!?? I found out about it on here but I have no seen a pic of the menu. For me it is not a huge deal because I already have the pics I want on it scanned on my computer already so all I hafta do is send an attachment and what i want the saying to be, but perhaps for those who would hafta take the time to scan the pics or get them put on a cd and loaded, etc. that might be a hassle, but my thinking is, is that its free, and I can't really afford a lot and my work-study job that I work 5 hrs a week just wont cut it for a huge gift! lol.

Ya, the sign and menu are awesome ideas and its great that they are totally free too!! I havent gone yet, b/c our trip is in May but I have seen a pic of the divers sign in another thread and the diver holds the sign right up to the window so if you camera has a flash that you can turn off, the pics will turn out great! As for the menu, I havent seen a pic but since it's free, I guess I can wait and see them as a surprise! If you need the number let me know, I've been giving it out all day!! oh, and your son is too cute!!

We'll be there May 18-June 1st (I'm soooo excited!). We have ADRs at Coral Reef on May 20th. I'll be giving them a call this morning!
