How to follow a thread?

This might be obvious, but I am missing it. How do I EFFICIENTLY follow a thread so that I know when a new reply has been made to it? Right now, if it is something I have a post on, I search for all my posts and individually check the ones I am looking for replies to. I am sure there is a better way. Thanks
