Hi, does anyone know a way to find two people who would like to share an amphicar ride? During some parts of my trip I'm meeting up with family or friends, but so far I don't know of anyone among them who would like to ride an amphicar. I'd rather share the experience with two people and divide the cost, than ride it solo. The ride has space for three passengers and the total cost is $125, with passholder discount it should be around $102, or around $34 per person if three people share. I did also post in the adults and solos thread but so far have not found anyone who can go that day (afternoon of April 13, 2016).

It looks like advance reservations are recommended, so I don't know -- is there any way to find people at the dock who may like to share vehicle and cost? At this price, it would be a shame to leave two empty seats. I'd like to ride this once, and it seems like it would be a good idea to share ride, if there is either a couple or any party of two, and everyone could save money that way.

Given that these car rides are so expensive for what you get, from what I've been reading, they aren't exactly lined up down the block waiting for these 'experiences'. You'd probably have as much luck hanging around and asking passers if they'd like to go halfsies on a ride.

Thanks... it sure is expensive, and I look at it as a bucket list item. I actually thought of doing that, but I'm a bit shy in situations like that.

  • LBJ's Amphibious Car Caught Friends and Dignitaries By Surprise
The German car could drive on streets and work as a boat in the President's lake

President Lyndon B Johnson in his Amphicar.

When President Lyndon B. Johnson visited his Texas ranch, he would often invite friends, and even foreign dignitaries, down and take them for a joyride in his car. But not just any car.

Johnson, unbeknownst to guests who were first-timers to the ranch, had an Amphicar. Built in Germany from 1961 to 1968, the Amphicar is the only civilian amphibious passenger automobile ever to be mass produced. A total of 3,878 vehicles were produced in four colors: Beach White, Regatta Red, Fjord Green (Aqua), and Lagoon Blue--the color of President Johnson's Amphicar.

Johnson would get his guest and drive down a steep incline toward the lake on his ranch, pretend to lose control, and then yell, "The brakes don't work! We're going in! We're going under!" The car would splash into the lake, and as everyone else was screaming, Johnson would be doubled over laughing.
