Can anyone tell me how to go about renting an DVC villa from an owner? I went to the DVC section on disboards but only got confused.

The way DVC works is your rental is based on points. Every member purchased a yearly point allotment and those that rent will charge a per point rental fee. What you need to do is use a site like this one :http://tagrel.com/dvcCompChart.shtml
or any DVC site with the points calculator and figure out how many points you need for your stay. Then you go over to the rent/trade board and find someone who has enough points for your stay. Hope this helps.

Read all the FAQ about renting points. Make sure that you go with someone that has been posting for a while. We rented points last year...I did a lot of research first. You may not find a match with your first few contacts...everyone's points have different use dates and different resorts. I would do it again, it was a great way to save $$ and we got to stay at one of our favorite resorts. (Saratoga Springs)

We've rented out our points a few times and I have posted the number of points that I ahe available and the cost per point ie:$10 (so $10 x 50 points needed would cost the renter $500). I then call DVC and see if there is availablity at the resort(s) and dates of choice. If available the potential renter and I agree on the point value (depends on the day of the week and view prference/availability). If accepted I send them a rental contract and they send the deposit/payments. It's worked out well each time. I have also listed the reservationt hat i had that we had to cancelf or various reasons (ie: 3/10-17 2008@ AKL value studio, and point amount, etc). If there are any takers then we enter into a rental contract.

If you are unsure about how to go about renting points read through all of the Rent/Trade stickies and ask questions. I wasn't sure how to do it at first but asked. It was easy to do and there are pelnty of threads that offer guidance for the process. Definatly go with someone who has a larger number of posts/has been here a long time so that you feel more reassured that they are not a scammer. Also check their post history if it will give you a feeling of "knowing" somehting about them.

Good luck and happy planning.
