How to file taxes..

Okay...I am getting married in two weeks. Since this is tax season...does anyone know if we should file before we get married (as single) or should we file after we get married (as a couple)? I can't seem to get an answer from anyone I know.

You file as single. You were not a married couple in 2008 and that is the tax year that you're filing for.

You need to file single since you were single for all of 2008. For your 2009 taxes, you can file married.

You file how your status is on 12/31. In 2008, you're single, in 2009, you're married.

The taxes you are going to file between now and April 15th are for 2008, since you weren't married in 2008, you must each file a separate tax return as SINGLE. You can't file married until the 2009 tax year (next year).
