I am a new Mom and we are taking our daughter to WDW in May. I thought I had all the packing for her under control but now I am getting worried! I know that suntan lotion is not recommended for infants under 6 mnths and she will only be 5 1/2 mnths old. I am told in the summer light pants are ideal but I am worried she will get too hot! Can someone please let me know what they normally pack for their little ones :) thank you

I think you will definitely want the light pants just to protect her skin from the sun. The biggest factor is keeping her cool and in the shade. Make sure you have a good hat and maybe even baby sun glasses too for her eyes.

Check with your pediatrician to see if sunscreen is OK by that point as she'll be pretty close to the 6 month mark.

Use a non chemical sunscreen like California baby. Those are safe for the little ones!! But a good sunshade on the stroller will be so important. Plus get a little battery powered fan to clip on it too!!

Check with your pediatrician and of course do what you're comfortable with, but I believe most will tell you that a sunburn is more harmful than sunscreen.

Don't forget a hat as it will provide great coverage and shade.

Agree with previous poster that the shade on the stroller will be a huge help. When you add one of those fans, it's pretty nice in there!

My daughter is a fair skinned red head. When she was little I didn't use hats, I made/bought bonnets. It covered so much more and had a brim to help shade her eyes. I used long dresses versus pants most often. Kept her cool and covered her legs. Have fun!

Good advice and just adding not to forget her feet. I have seen little feet get burned because the baby is barefooted and the shade on the stroller does not quite reach the feet. Using sun block if your doctor approves should be fine on feet. Also think ahead as your little one grows in the next few months to make feeding on the trip easier. If you nurse....maybe consider nursing at least through the trip even if that had not been your plan as it will be so much easier. If you use formula, start early serving at room temperature and using what ever method you will use on the trip (ex powder, ready to feed), and consider waiting to your return to start solids.

We actually used a swim shirt with sunscreen protection at times on our little ones in the park. Not sure of your stroller shade but if not a great one you can get an extender. Also California baby and Burt's bee baby should be okay. They don't have the chemicals in them and all we use anymore. Like pp said, don't forget the feet!

California Baby is a good brand and you can get it in Target in the baby stuff area. We also used Aveeno and Nuetrogena. All are very good, but I liked Cali baby. A little of it goes a VERY long way. Don't forget to protect little ears, feet, fingers and that cute nose! Be sure your umbrella has a HUGE shade; there are companies here that will rent out the Citymini's. Although I love my Britax, the Citymini's aren't bad for the rental. Disney's strollers suck for newbies. Layer the baby's clothes so you can adjust for warmth, since May can be a little weird weather-wise. The other thing that I couldn't LIVE without were gauze swaddle blankets. I would put them over my stroller for xtra protection, and they were light enough that they let air in and would not sweat the baby. Plus, you can swaddle the baby at night with them. I did bring "cheater swaddlers" - the ones with velcro (Halo brand?). Those were handy at night.
Don't be afraid of bringing TOO much, since baby clothes take up little room. Also, if you are a cloth diaper mama, there are cloth diaper services that handle some of the hotels at or around the Disney area. The cloth diapers prevent diaper rash, but that's a whole 'nuther topic.
Oh, and Florida is a "right to nurse" state (or, as I like to call it, "a right to whip it out" state!). You can nurse anywhere you please - I've done it on Mansion, at restaurants, at Nemo - everywhere. No one has every made me uncomfortable about it, ever. The baby centers though are the nicest. The staff at every baby center has been nothing but nice, and while the rocking chairs aren't really comfy, the centers do provide a nice air condition break. Take advantage of them!!!

There ARE cloth diaper rentals available??? When I looked I couldn't find ny. Please share.rght now I plan on packing out fluff

I highly recommend looking into "babylegs babycool" leggings as an alternative to pants. They are very lightweight and breathable, and they have uv protection in the fabric. I also recommend looking at iplay sunhats, as they also have uv protection in the fabric

Look under the "order" section. She also has a map of the service area. The diaps are prefolds, so I'd recommend bringing your own snappis and diaper covers. I find rumpsroos to work best. Bring a wet bag too.

Our little one was 4 months old when we went in April a couple years ago and he just wore a onesie most of the time. It was like 90 degrees everyday....

We took our youngest when he was 5 months old. Our pediatrician said it was ok to use sunscreen, just not to put it on his hands since babies put their hands in their mouths. He has blonde hair, blue eyes, and skin that some have jokingly called "see-through" because he is so fair. The dr said using sunscreen was a better option than a baby getting a burn.

We brought lightweight blankets to drape over the stroller for extra shade. We went in April and it was very hot. He mostly wore onesies.

One of the worst things I see, and it really scares and upsets me is when mothers have an infant all wrapped up in those snuggley things and wear them against their hot bodies in 95* heat. I would be terrified my baby would die of heatstroke!

Actually there are many of them that are not hot at all. I wear both of my LOs all the time. We don't live too far from disney so we have the same temps. And with baby being that close we can tell when baby is getting too hot. Using those frogg togg towels are great.

We are going in May too. Baby will wear just a light weight onsie and we will use a sunscreen like california baby. My baby will be 6 months on our trip. Like a PP mentioned baby legs are great. I also wear my baby in the ergo so it has a hood that will cover her from the sun. And then we rent the city mini stroller to use for breaks from baby wearing.
