Step 1:
Get married...that way you have in laws to go with. In my case, we all went a few times before DH and I got married. I consider those practice runs. They happened in the days before I discovered, or rather DH discovered the DIS. Before that, I relied on the Unofficial Guide and a bevy of other books. This is much better!
Step 2:
Introductions:
DH: 27, teaches driver's ed to people with disabilities. He has a stressful job and is in desperate need of some Disney. He is in essence a very tall four year old. Favorite Disney movie is Robin Hood. He loves thrill rides.
DBIL: 25, pretty much goes with the flow. HATES Tower of Terror. Consequently, it is DH's job to torture him with threats of making him go on it. We currently have a deal that if I go on Rock N Rollercoaster that he will go on Tower of Terror. This isn't a big deal for me. I don't love RnR, but I don't hate it. I plan to make him ride ToT unless he is super upset. DBIL is legally blind and has some cognitive issues as well.
DFIL: 49, the most laid back person in the world. The main financier of these trips. Lucky for us he is in the DVC!
I think that techniques their home resort is in Vero Beach, but we've never been there. We were supposed to go one year, but got stuck at Disney during Hurricane Charlie. So we checked into the Beach Club a few days early. He seems to like thrill rides. He doesn't say a whole lot. He has to ride It's a Small World.
DMIL: 47, I can't always tell if she likes Disney. She doesn't seem to care much about the planning. I don't think I've ever heard her say anything positive or negative about Disney. I'm pretty sure she hates thrill rides. She hasn't requested off work for the trip yet...that'll probably work out okay...we hope.
Me: 25, I'm pretty sure I have OCD. It isn't diagnosed, but I always have hand sanitizer and have possibly over planned this trip...and every other trip I've ever been on. The only thing I really hate about Disney is Mission Space. It is in no way fun for me. I'M NOT DOING IT AND YOU CAN'T MAKE ME! Oh, and costumed characters...my goal this year is to not run away, hopefully by the time we have kids, I'll be able to stand next to them and not pee my pants. You just don't know who is in there, you know? Freaks me out. I'm a drug and alcohol counselor and all day people tell me terrible things. I need me some Disney World.
Step 3:
Schedule said trip.
We're going August 31-September 6. We scheduled it for that time because we thought it wouldn't be as busy. Now that we've done it, I'm starting to wonder if we were wrong. I didn't know about free dining...and there as been some discussion about the crowds being lower the week after Labor Day...is that the week that Labor is in? Or the week after? I guess we'll find out. We usually go in June so we're used to crowds. DH and I went on our Honeymoon in March and thought the park was empty.
Step 4:
Order tickets and get flights.
We all got 10 day park hopper tickets with 10 pluses. Now you say to yourself, but you'll only be there for seven days! I know. It seemed like a good idea. Something about prices not getting cheaper and we'll go back.
We are flying on August 31st at some super early time in the morning out of Pittsburgh airport, which is two and a half hours from here...with no traffic. So we're staying at a Days Inn the night before. It's only seven miles from the airport and we can leave the car there.
We'll take Magical Express to the Boardwalk Villas. DH and I did that for our honeymoon last year and it worked well. I didn't like not being in charge of when we left for the airport on the way back...there's that OCD again!
Step 5: Accommodations
We will be staying in a two bedroom suite at the Boardwalk Villas. Thanks DFIL! This is what we normally do. We don't think we'll need the kitchen because of the dining plan, but the extra space and bathroom are helpful! And DFIL and DMIL wanted a washer and dryer. I personally don't want to do laundry when I'm on vacation. And I'm allergic to basically everything but regular Tide. Even the pink soap in public bathrooms makes my hands itchy; hence the hand sanitizer.
Step 6:
EATS!
We have the dining plan which DH and I had on our honeymoon. At that time you still got an appetizer, entree, desert, and drink. That was a lot of food. I'm a little bummed that you can't pick an appetizer or desert. I'll get over it though.
Our ADRs:
Sunday (arrival day): Probably the ESPN club...the men folk like sports. I like their fries. I may try to persuade someone to go to Earl of Sandwich with me instead.
Monday: DFIL and DMIL's anniversary. They are having date night
They're going to Chef's de France. I hope they read the menu... Does anyone know how we could go about having a special desert delivered to them? They've been married for twenty nine years...holy crap! The rest of us are going to Tony's. DH and I have read some iffy reviews lately, but we haven't ever had a problem with it and DBIL will eat almost anything. Except for lettuce. Weird.
Tuesday: Le Cellier. Our ADR is super early...like 4:30 or something. This was the best meal DH and I had on our honeymoon and wanted the rest of the family to try it.
Wednesday: Mama Melrose with Fantasmic! We went here on our first trip and have gone every time since then. We like it. The first time we went there is the first and only time I ate anything with a shell. I think it was a mussel. I was not pleased.
Thursday: DH and I are having date night.
We're going to Kona. We thought we'd try something new. We aren't very adventurous eaters. This is almost like branching out. The rest of the family are going to the Coral Reef. That's interesting because I've never seen DBIl eat seafood. I mean, they have other things that he can eat, so he'll be okay. I'm a little jealous because it would be cool to eat next to the aquarium, but I hate seafood and sometimes even the smell of it makes me want to barf.
Friday: Spirit of Aloha. We're a little concerned about what DH will eat. He doesn't like pineapple or pork. And we've heard some mixed reviews. Let's hope it goes well. He can always eat something after!
Wow! That was a long first post! Second post ever really....
