For some reason, DH is adamantly against taking a cruise. He hates to fly - I don't know if the thought of being out on the ocean freaks him out as well. I have enlisted the help of his best friend and his GF (the best friend is going to suggest we all take a cruise together this summer). I was thinking a 4 day cruise (to start out with) and then a few days at WDW since we have AP's. Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do?

This may not help, but my MIL wanted to go on a cruise really bad but FIL didn't. We bought it for them for a 40th anniversary present. FIL first said he wouldn't go. He did go and now wants to take another cruise.

See if you can get DH to this site. Maybe if he hears all the good things people say, it may change his mind.

Good luck

I would definitely start by going to www.disneycruise.com and ordering the video and brochure. When it arrives, just casually say "Hey, look what came today. Let's watch it and see if it looks any good." Maybe that can get him more interested.

Can't hurt to try..............

If you get the Travel Channel, they have a very good hour long show about DCL. That usually gets people motivated to give it a try.

I don't know if this helps either. But I never wanted to take a cruise. I like to be entertained and have a certain level of activity, which is probably why I like the parks so much. I think I believed that I would be bored. After all whats there to do but hang out by the pool and eat...right? Boy how wrong I was. I've been looking forward to doing this again for 3 years. I don't think I've ever been able to relax so much and still feel I was actively doing things.

Get a room with verandah. Thats what sold me. Just the thought of opening that door at night and falling asleep to the ocean breeze.......aint nothing better.:D

My DH does not like to vacation but does it because he works all the time when we are home and knows that he needs quality time with us. We did the 4 night cruise with the verandah and he loved it. The main thing was to let him do what he wanted. If he wanted to hang out in the room and watch football while our DD was in the kids club then that is what he did. It was very relaxing and we are now booked on the 7 night western Nov. 6, 2004 in a cat. 3. If you can get him on the ship he will love it.

Three words:
REFILLABLE BEER MUG! LOL

That was one thing DH loved on our cruise - and the adult pool with the edge to sit in to enjoy his beer! lol

On our cruise on RCCL last week we shared a cab with some people on a Carnival Ship on St. Maarten. It turned out they live only 10 miles or so from us. We were talking about how my husband didn't want to take a cruise at first, but once he did, he can't imagine another vacation. They had the funniest story:

The husband refused to consider a cruise, so they were visiting the wife's sister in Florida (Miami I think) and they said hey, lets drive out and look at the ships in port, so off they went. When they pulled up, they got out of the car, opened the trunk and pulled out their suitcases and drug him onboard. He said after 1 day of being mad (the room was so small the only beds were up in walls during the day, this was many years ago), he fell in love with cruising and they have been cruising every since!

My BF was adamant about not cruising, kept spouting mumbojumbo about titanic... as if thre are any ICEBERGS in the bahamas..... :) Well the last 4 times we went to WDW I kept the cruise channel on all the time & that got him interested & then the shows on the travel channel helped too! After our last trip he came back with the lines memorized.... "for kids, it's never never land, for adults it's shangrila" (on CC) LOL- it CRACKS me up whenever he says it & I love to sing the little catchy tune...." cross the sea, where each discovery begins with fairy tale....." & let me tell you, we haven't heard it since we were in WDW in August, but it sticks. SO, guess where we are off to in May?? HOORAY!! Good Luck!:teeth:

I was also going to say, order the video. I dont see how anyone can resist Mickey! My husband wasnt to keen on taking a Disney cruise either, he isnt a big Disney fan, and he wanted to go on RCCL or to a Sandles resort instead. Well I talked him into the cruise with the video and telling him how much dd6 and I would enjoy it. Needless to say he had a great time. We wanted to combine our next cruise with the 2005 Daytona 500, but couldnt because Disneys valentines sailing is too expensive for us. Well I told dh that we could look into a RCCL sailing and he said, "No Kaylee (DD) had a lot of fun on Disney, I think we should stick with that untill she is older." I thought this was pretty funny. Now I know how much he loves DCL, we are huge Nascar fans and he just turned down a chance to go to the "superbowl" of Nascar!

We had the video, but what really convinced dh and his friend to part with their hard-earned money was seeing a special on the travel channel. It really details the cruise ships and all the amenities. Plus I told dh I didn't need a valentine or anniversary present this year if he would go on the cruise :-)

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions and ideas. I'm pretty sure I'll prevail in the end. He had resigned, well, if we have to we have to, attitude about our first WDW trip and now he loves it. I'm definitely going to get the video! Are Disney cruises all-inclusive in terms of meals?:D

Yes....... all your meals are included. The only extra meal charge is in Palo, if you go there. Also included is all the food at the snack bars and room service (tip the room service server). Sodas are not included (except at meals), unless you get the unlimited soda package, which is $35 on the 7 day.

What is it really that makes a Disney cruise so great? Don't get me wrong, we love WDW, but as I've started looking into cruises, the Disney ones seem a lot more expensive than many others. What makes it worth the extra money? We don't have kids yet, so don't really need the characters and stuff to make our trip memorable. We do love Disney quality. I'm assuming a category 6 or above stateroom is comparable to a Deluxe resort?

For me its the atmosphere. I'd still choose disney even without the kids. I've only been on a disney cruise so I guess I cant compare. But when I look back at my WDW visits I wouldnt trade my onsite stays for any luxury hotel offsite. I think you get so immersed in the atmosphere, attention to detail and ..yes "magic" that is a difference maker in your trip.

A couple of years ago we stayed at the beach club but because i made a reservation mistake i had a couple of extra days at the end of our vacation with no booking. So we decided to book 2 nights at the Hard Rock Hotel and spend our last 2 days at Universal. The room at Hard Rock was bigger, nicer and more comfortable. The parks were fun( Im a big roller coaster fan ) and we had a good time....it was a huge mistake. Even though there was nothing wrong with Universal...it was not the same and we lost all that disney relaxtion. The little things were different. The people at the hotel and parks were not as friendly. The atmosphere...was....was....well not as "magical". So eventhough I know some of the disney trips are more expensive...its worth if to just have the intangible feeling that I get on those vacations.

To each their own though...do what makes you happy.

The staff, and yes, even for the adults the characters. Just seeing them brings a smile to my face. The food is great (and you can try all sorts of new foods without fear of wasting $30 on something you didn't like). Some say that the food on other lines is better - but DCL is better than anything I have ever had. The shows are all very good - oriented to the kiddies and interesting and well enough done for adults. They are not the WDW short "rubber head" shows. There is a lot of other entertainment other than in the main theater. There are family and adult cabarette shows that feature singers, commedians, magicians, jugglers, ventreloquists, etc. There is the 70's and 80's nights parties and dancing.

If you are worried about kids, kids everywhere. DCL does a great job (and better than most lines) in keeping the kids occupied and not underfoot. The adults pool is for adults only. THe family pool is for everyone, the mickey pool is for the youngest (toddlers). There are adult educational series (The Navigators, the Art of Entertaining, and the Art of Entertainment). There is the stem to stern wine tasting program. On castaway cay there is the adult only beach called Serenity Bay (for a very good reason), the family beach and the teenagers beach. CC is a beautiful island paradise. Much nicer than most other lines "private beaches".

As far as the rooms being comparable to a Delux Resort, you will be disapointed if size is what matters. DCL's rooms are much larger (25%) than rooms on other ships. That being said, they are much smaller than the rooms at the "All Star Resorts" (value resort). If you have an outside room the view from your stateroom cannot be matched by any room at WDW. The rooms are functional, comfortable and very well maintained. The common areas should be called "Uncommon Areas" because consistant with the design of the ship, they are very elegant and comfortable along with being functional.

Even if I didn't have children, I would choose DCL!::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Don't let him see the "Bad Vomit Story" thread

I just booked the June, um - I forgot - the date. Oh well, it's the 7 night Western Caribbean! I am soooooooo excited. Since we have AP's we might as well spend a few days at WDW before we leave. Maybe POFQ. Thanks for all the great advice and information. I'm sure I'll have DH convinced of what a great plan this is by June 2004!;) Um . . . haven't told him I've booked yet. I may let his best friend do that.
