Hoping that fellow dis boarders on the budget board can help me clean white plastic (hard resin) lawn chairs. My neighbor was throwing them out and they are perfectly good chairs (except quite dirty) and we asked him if we could have them for our patio and he said sure. We tried scrubbing them yesterday (used **** and Span; Simple Green and Zap and comet--not all at once! but to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated--otherwise, we will cover them with a cushion and call it a day! Thanks in advance.

Yep, Magic Eraser!!

If all else fails, spray paint them bright colors

use some bleach solution and let it sit on the dirt for a minute. then power wash. they will look almost new.

Try magic erasers or just paint them with the new plastic spray paint that just came out a few years ago. I did it and it is easy.

I tried, Comet, Soft Scrub, and products that are made to clean the plastic but nothing worked like the Magic Eraser. Just be sure you have enough of them!!

You can use a nylon scrubbie and some Dawn dish detergent too. Just a small amount of detergent right on the scrubbie and wash down the chairs. They are a lot less expensive then the Magic Erasers and work very well. You can buy them 2 or 3 to a pack at the grocery store, walmart, etc. Don't use the abrasive ones (Scotch Pads or SOS) just the nylon/plastic ones.

Whitening toothpaste and an abrasive washcloth. But get it from the toothpaste from the dollar store, otherwise can get pricey.

Yet another vote for Magic Eraser. I have used it to clean alot of things that I could not get clean using other products.

Think of it this way, you know those black scuffs you sometimes get on your floor from shoes. You can scrub them with everything under the sun and they still don't come off but if you rub them a bit with your sock, they come right up. The gunk on the resin chairs is the same way. Many cleaners won't work, you need something that with lift the gunk, not clean it, which is why the Magic Erasers and the nylon scrubbies work so well and the other cleaners don't.

While I swear by the magic eraser for almost everything, the best thing for those plastic chairs is something called "Awesome." It's available at the dollar store. It is absolutely the best thing for that kind of dirt and grime. We used it on our trailer and it looked brand new. Spray it on and wipe it off, if it's really, really bad, a little rubbing might be necessary, but nothing serious. It really is AWESOME!!!

If the magic eraser doesn't work, try Tilex Mold and Mildew cleaner. It works on our patio chairs, just don't get it on your clothes!

Throw them in the pool overnight. (Hey, it works)

It is probably the chlorine in the pool acting as a very dilute bleach. You'll get the same affect just spritzing a bleach/water solution on them.

Peronsally, I'd pitch 'em. I hate those plastic chairs.
