Ladies, how do you keep your hair brush clean? I have googled and tried some stuff, but nothing seems to help with the bristles. Its just a paddle brush with plastic bristles. Its in pretty good shape otherwise, so i don't want to buy a new 1 just because its dirty.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I use very hot water and a little shampoo in a large bowl. If it isn't clean after that, I think it is time for a new brush!

I have also heard that you simply clean it out and shampoo it in hot water.

I pull all the old chair off and dispose of it. then load the brush onto the top rack of the dishwasher.:thumbsup2

This was going to be my suggestion as well.

When my brushes and combs get dirty, I clean the hair out and then soak them in hot water with baking soda in it.

Used the bowl of hot water and shampoo trick. It worked great. Thanks:thumbsup2

Will have to remember the dishwasher tip if I ever get 1 of those.

My mom had a little gadget that she used to clean hairbrushes. It was a small circular bristled brush that spun around on a handle (think of a small pizza cutter with bristles). It worked great. When the brush cleaner bit the dust, she cleaned hairbrushes in warm water with shampoo and used a comb to pull the hair off the brush--this also cleaned the comb. Bonus! You do need to soak the brush and the comb for about 20 min. in warm soapy water first.

I just cleaned mine last night. I clean as much of the hair out of the brushes and combs that I can, then I fill a sink with the hottest water possible and I pour in some ammonia and let them soak for a couple of hours. I then let the water out and rinse with very hot water. Any residue that remains can be wiped off with a paper towel.

I use ammonia and hot water, also...one of mom's tricks!

:scared1:

WOW! I remember the smell of ammonia from working in a nursing home. Lets just say this will not be finding its way into my house. I really like breathing. I think after today I can save you your lungs and assure you that the shampoo tricks works as well as your ammonia does:thumbsup2

I boiled water in a teapot mixed with a little of my shampoo, and apparently any works. Got some suds going and let the brush sit. I found the middle to be the hardest part of the brush, but just let it sit in the water while i took the dog for a walk. The walk took about an hour, and when i came back the brush looked almost like new. Let it dry awhile and then was able to get rid of what was left by hand.

Thanks to everybody who replied. I really didn't want to buy a new brush :lmao:
