How to change magicbands

I searched the forums before posting but Im sure this has been answered before. We are DVC as well as AP holders. We had 4 trips to Disney booked this year so we have 4 sets of magicbands as well as one set for the AP. I have magicbands coming out of you know where. Is there a way that I can link just one set of magicbands for everything and change hotel reservations for each trip?

When I log onto MDE, it shows all the magicbands as active and when they send a new set for each trip, Im assuming the new set has our room entry and our AP set has the AP tickets for the year.

All of your magic bands linked to your MDE account can be used interchangeably. They all can be used as your room key and your annual pass info is on there too. Magic bands basically serve as a key that unlocks the info in your MDE account. So you could wear a different color each day of your trip if you wanted to and as long as it is linked to your MDE account you can use all of them for everything.

The last time we went just under a year ago we all had Magicbands. We still have ours but our grandkids do not. How do you go about just replacing the missing ones we need?...smjj,

If you have a Disney World resort reservation you will be getting another set of magic bands. If not, you can purchase new ones when you get on property and even some off property stores and resorts.

We have 22 magic bands with 7 more on their way. We decide which ones we want to use and inactivate the extras in our account and leave them at home.

I know that Disney continues to post record profits but sending out all of these unnecessary bands is so wasteful.

Are you staying at a Disney Resort? If yes, you need to set up My Disney Experience accounts for the grandkids. Disney will then send out free MBs to you for your grandkids. Also if you purchase tickets for the grandkids and yourself at least 60 days out you will be able to schedule FP+ for all of you starting with the 60 day mark.

If you are not staying at a Disney resort, but your entire group are AP holders, then you can get one free MB per AP. Or if you are buying tickets and staying off property, then the only way to get an MB is to purchase one at the park.

Here's what it says on the MDE website:

You will receive a MagicBand if you stay at a Disney Resort hotel or you are a Walt Disney World Passholder. If you are not staying at a Disney Resort hotel and are not a Passholder, you will receive a card when you purchase park admission—and you have the option to purchase a MagicBand at Disney theme parks and Downtown Disney area.

So if I understand this correctly, if I have 5 magicbands linked to MDE, then all the bands have the AP associated with it along with hotel and DR and FP+ for each trip?

Yes, this is correct.

The bands have nothing on them. They simply have a chip that accesses your information in you My Disney Experience profile. Therefore, any bands that have been created for you will be able to be used interchangably. They will all read whatever is in your MDEx account at the time they are scanned (resort room, current pass linked to your account, etc.) .

Wait, each person staying at a Disney Resort has to have his/her own MDE account? I guess I hadn't thought that through. If I'm making the reservation for a villa to be used by myself I do have an MDE account) and other people who don't have MDE accounts, at what point do they need to set up MDE accounts? Before I make the reservation? After I make the reservation but before I customize the Magic Bands? Or do they customize their Magic Bands rather than me?

I'm so confused...

They're all linked to everything if they are active. BUT I'm going on a trip w/ DBFs fam, they get a MB for me, but I'm using the one that I like to use. It's already decorated. I just need to use it at check-in w/ my PIN so it can be linked to that hotel room. With my other MB, I now put dates on them. Why? b/c it has been stated by CM that they will hold a life of up to 2 years. And since they are now SELLING them to day trippers, I'm wondering if at some point their will be a charge. I want to try to avoid it as long as possible.

You can add them to your account, easy since they are on your room reservation. You will have to do their selections or allow them access to your account though.

Okay, great. I'll add them to my account, and I will make all the selections (which I had planned to do anyway).

Thanks.

This kind of goes with this post but I've seen a lot of decorated magic bands lately. How much bling is too much? Like will it still work if it's decorated? Thanks!!

I totally agree. I spent a long time on the phone trying to get them not sent (to me or hotel) but I was told this is not possible. I also wonder how likely it is that they get recycled when you refuse them at the hotel since are still personalized (with names) even if you don't customize the colors. We do a lot of split stays and are accumulating A LOT of bands.

I figure eventually we'll have enough that I can link them together and use them as our countdown chain for our trips
